I thought that SDK was pretty interesting and...i still do. I'm up to chapter 160 or something and i really want to know what happens, that's the only thing keeping me reading this manga. Kyoshiro turning into Kyo at first really confused me, i though he'd change back...i thought...until i had to accept that he probably wasn't coming back. Yuya just gets utterly wimpy!! I mean she was so badass at the start and then she totally falls, and all she can do is comment on the fights while they go on. Also every time Kyo falls its all like "Kyooooooooo!" i mean get a room already.
COMMENTING its so fudging annoying, i mean we can see whats happening ourselves! Every fight someone had to tell us every detail, how scary they look, how they can't see the move.
Also the plot is really slow...i think that Akimine should have sped it up and cut out the first hundred or so chapters. The fights are really repetitive, its all Kyo loosing and then he gets this massive killing aura. ANOTHER THING the killing auras just seem to be getting more frightening every chapter, there has to be a limit to how much a frown can scare you.
A character that really annoys me though, and we don't even know her yet is Sakuya. I mean Yuya is like compared to her so much. I would be angry as if i were compared to her, its like Kyo doesn't like Yuya at all (right now there's hardly been romance...but it is shonen) and he likes how much she reminds him of Sakuya.
All in all, this manga has a REALLY interesting plot, well once you get past all these things, but if it doesn't bother you GO AHEAD.

I first saw the anime for this series. It was pretty good in my opinion, a tough guy making a servant out of a tough young woman and threatening to kill anyone strong. The anime touched lightly on some romance, but the manga hints a LOT at it. In fact, just the little bits of it are enough to keep a girl happy without going too shoujo. The drawing is very well done, and the characters develop really nicely. This is great!

In me opinion, this manga art and fighting scene is even on a par or a least nearly at the level of those top shounen.
The story is fine, but the never losing plot is a bit dull though most shounen go that way.
The settings of side characters is very nice. All of them is unique and likable.
Take Bleach as an example for this manga, there lines of characters, friends and foes, each of them fight each other, the enemy is always overwhelming but somehow we will manage to win.

BUT the 2 main characters is so damn dense, that make the whole plot shallow. It's a bit sad since this manga should be much better

Because it used to be my favorite manga I give it 9. But now that I think about it, the plot doesn't really stand out. As already said, only the art is great.. Somehow I loved every characters of this manga, that's why I'll buy all the volumes -when I get rich. And because it's my first shounen, and the manga that permitted me to do great encounters, it will stay special to me. Shinrei, Hotaru and Kyo are still the best~ =P

The story is pretty good. But I don't like how the manga focuses too much on the supporting characters and evil guys in the latter chapters (especially since I don't like Yukimura...he just pisses me off).
Someone should filter the KyoxYuya and Kyo VS evil guy moments.
That's all I am intrested in. Who needs to know the whole background of some unimportant character, who is going to be killed by Kyo anyway.

the fighting in kenshin was more technical, with developed special techniques that aren't just the same move over and over again but with more power. Kenshin WAS THE SAMURAI anime/manga. But Samurai deeper kyo is just mindlessly overpowering opponents, like DBZ, which isn't so bad when you don't want to think, but Kenshin requires brainpower on your part

the story is different from kenshin. kyo is not a srongest warrior like kenshin. kyo only the last child of mibu clan. so many people are stronger then kyo like kyoshiro mibu.

aoshi want to be strongest, but yukimura dont want to be stongest, but he want defeat tokugawa.

kenshin cant kill but kyo can kill

kenshin fight back the old enemy (he used to fight shisio before) , but kyo want to destroy mibu, he never fight mibu before, he escaping from mibu (kyo havent fight aka no ou before)

This is a great samurai manga.It has a little slow start but by vol 4 or so the series goes from being good to awesome as hell.The characters are quite cool.The main character is a complete bad ass, and there is alot of cool and interesting battles.The story is fun too.Definitely my favorite shonen manga besides One Piece and Groove Rave Adventure at the moment.
I'm sad that so little is fan scanned though.I've been buying the offical books from tokyopop and I've read 15 vols so far and I'm always dying for the next one.The series is at vol 34 in Japan.Arghhh I wanna read the rest so much.
Anyways check out the series and be sure to at least hang with it for a few vols I didn't start loving until vol 4-5.It keeps getting better with each vol.
Also the anime sucks for this series is was very vague and they skipped so much of the story in the first 10 vols or so.So don't miss out on the manga of SDK because the anime wasn't good.
I think this is the best samurai manga ever yes better than Rurouni Kenshin and Vagabond.Although SDK is way over the top crazy stuff compared to those other samurai mangas.
With a manga like this and a few others its no wonder why Weekly Shonen Magazine is just about as popular as Weekly Shonen Jump these days.

My impression from the 1st volume was this manga definitely well drawing, nice art! And the story quiet good. Then I continued to read it.... Even I bought SDK manga until last volume.
I really like hotaru and shin lei characters.
But really,,, the most absolute vital weakness point here is the battle. The good ones (they who stand on the kyo side) always win, no matter what the reason! Then there they come out new weapon, skill, etc during the fight (Compare before they were enemies of Kyo, --> Lost). And the ending story's sucked.
I sold my collection of this manga few years ago. And I forgot what the ending story was.
Guess it left me no impression... (story), only the art's good.

The art is really good and the story WAS good in the beginning. However i find the end very boring -_-" the plot goes no-where... The end and battles should have been shorter.
But well i love most of the character so i give a 7.
