Actually for a little while it has gone a little below its previous level, but there is one reason i have to give it a 10 : Guts's youth, from volume 3 up to volume 13. It is without a doubt the best story which has ever been and will ever be written /drawn. I have read it at the very least 15 times, and it keeps being as awesome as it was maybe not the first time where i literally couldn't take my eyes off the manga, but as the second time I read it.
Oh and don't misunderstand me : the chapters afterwards are still good. However they have more of a basic seinen feel, with a plot that does not seem to really go anywhere. I would usually lower the grade a little for that, but the first part is an absolute must read, so I don't. You can stop afterwards if you wish, but please read the first 13 volumes.
No matter what it is the first manga i would recommend to any one whos asks me "Hey, do you know a really good seinen ?". So if you don't have read it already, drop everything else right now and get down to work !

Well I can just say I love this Manga. It is interesting full of detail and has a great story and the autor knows how to devlop this. The only thing is I just don't know what to say about some people that start to believe Berserk is getting bad just because the direction it is taking is a little difference but hey come on it is the best fantasy themed Manga in the whole work. I just love the art the details the story so full of ideas and completely without plot lacks. It was a dark comic at the beginning then it got brighter because Guts started to have a place for himself then this was robbed and he was almost driven insane with vengeance. And now it's starting to become brighter again. All these people are complaining because they think the Manga is starting to become just some mainstream crap but no it isn't you guys have just to see the whole picture but most of you try to stay focused on a small part. It had to go in a little bit different direction or else it would have been only the same for ever, a Guts getting more and more dragged in a hate spiral and just fighting and fighting and fighting. Now he has something new which he has to adapt to and that again makes the Manga just better. Oh and believe me it will get back to the old bloody gore revenge thing. I just pity everyone who fails to realize this incredible great work. And when it is finished we will cry because everything will fit in perfectly.
So for everyone who like fantasy (dark medieval fantasy) this Manga is the non plus ultra nothing better available and believe me I looked everywhere.

For me, this is one of the best manga that I've ever read. Yes, it does take quiet a while to really enjoy the artwork and the raw emotion of the manga. I'm not gonna criticize the people who rate this manga badly, but do please don't rate it if you haven't even read past 1st volume.
There are some people who take these reviews seriously and anyone can try out any manga at the first chapter or two as it only takes 2 minutes. What they want to know is how the manga develops and you should really rate it as a whole. There are tons of manga out there that I don't read past 1st volume, but I never rate it 1 or 2 just because its not my type of manga.
Anyway back to berserk, it is quiet gory but the violence isn't pointless. Do keep away if you don't like these things used as a medium to deliver the storyline. The artwork at the beginning of the series does need some improvement, in which it did improve at the later part of the series. And oh yeah this has the longest update ever for any manga (about 5 chapters a year?). So consider that advance warning.

I agree with the others. Berserk, if you believe that mangas are not only a mean for entertaining kids, is a masterpiece.
I acknowledge that sometimes it's too slow, some episodes are just put there without a real purpose, but overall it's a great work in every sense.
I'd suggest not to read the spoilers though, as it can be exhausting, since releases are very slow.
Berserk and Blade Of the Immortal, the 2 manga I would suggest for people of any age over 15

After I saw the first episode of anime my interest in Berserk turned off for a long time, but after hearing a lot of praise, I downloaded the manga.
At first, I found it a bit too... ugly. I have read first phase of GANTZ, so gore isn't any news to me, but I couldn't really get used to all those ugly monsters. I sighed with relief when manga went into a huge flashback, and that's where it started becoming great.
After the flashback ended and manga was in present time again the ugliness did not bother me... I guess I got used to it by the way.
When a few more people joined Gats it started feeling even more great, though at some point my mind made an "OMG! It's like some RPG!" alarm go off, but I have faith in the mangaka's skill and hope that he'll make story good enough for my suspense of disbelief to stop being broken.
Ignoring some minor flaws, it's an awesome manga. It's serious, but it doesn't get too dark for me to handle. Characters are wonderful, well-developed and still developing. Artwork is one of the best I've seen. Plot just draws you in.
It is rare to me to fall in love with a manga this much, it is not just another manga; it's like a great fantasy novel + great art. It's something awesome for a die-hard fantasy and manga fan like me.

my all time favourite.
this was one of the first of many manga's i've read, like most of the first ones i've read, i've quickly discarded them from my top 10, but berserk still stands strong.
the manga has transcended, and it's awesome, definately not for the faint heart, and the best part is that it hasn't ended which allows the mind wonder on different possibilities of how it ends.

Definitely one of the best comics I've ever read.
Story is simply epic but U can say it's basically about two strong characters, their friendship, betrayal and about people who follow thous two. I say it one more time charakters - very very strong charakters is what i think is the best part of this book, they are very unusal U just can't compare them to any other charakters in other mangas.
Drawings are really good, and they fit very well in cllimat of dark mediavil age. They
