Ah I remember when I used to love this series in middle school....that was 12 years ago. I remember reading over and over the story in which Conan temporarily changes back to Shinichi, and hoping for when he and Ran can finally be together....now more than a decade has gone by and the plot has still not progressed whatsoever. Moreover, the mysteries have gotten increasingly preposterous. Every solution involves some rube-goldberg type killing or escape mechanism that would never work in real life. I hope the author can give us a decent ending to the series before another decade goes by!

It's a good manga , but the way it goes on and on with no plot development and no new plots , it gets so booooooring and I just had to stop reading.

I love Case Closed (or detective conan, whatever) but at the same time, there are a few problems.
Characters: I like what Gosho Aoyama has set up, they're kind of funny, cute, etc, but in the long run, nothing has really changed over 745 chapters. Shinichi turned into conan, but Conan hasn't really changed at all. Ran and Shinici's relationship hasn't gone anywhere, so it can be a little boring. The only relationships that have changed are Takagi's and Satou's, and they're minor characters. What's with that?
Plot: it's the perfect setup- all you have to do is make a few tweaks and poof! you have a new mystery. Although it's fun to see how the mystery was pieced together,and i think Gosho Aoyama is a bit of a genius, it gets tedious after awhile, reading that chapter after chapter. Also, what i'm really disappointed about are Kid's appearances. They used to be a break from the usual cases, a mystery mixed with action and adventure, but then they dropped off, taking the form of a usual mystery. Why would that happen? I have no idea, but it makes me kind of upset.

So, all in all, i can't help loving it, but it's not thaaaat fabulous when you look at the big picture.

I actually used to be a big fan of this series, but now I can only shake my head in despair. The mysteries were inventive and the plot interesting, but now it's just dragging on and on and ON! I keep skimming the new chapters in search for scraps of the original plot, but it seems this series has become more of a cash cow than anything. The only thing really worth reading now is the interaction between the minor characters, like Satou and Tagaki, Sonoko and Matoko, and so on, but those are also pretty scarce...

@Usagi~Gurl The 'original plots' are mostly rehashes and further developments of previous plots. How many times has the author done the 'almond scent' poison for his chapters? More than enough times to count. Enough times for TVTropes to point out on it being a defining aspect of Detective Conan's overall mysteries.

So really, not that original. Sure, first time around, but then recycled to overuse in the next 700 chapters. What keeps it innovative and alive after so many years are the slight quirks that he does from case to case, and the overwhelmingly loyal fans to Conan and his friends. What really happens underneath all the detective work is surprisingly very little - too many fillers in both anime AND manga to count.

I think it is amazing that Gosho Aoyama is able to come up with soooo many genius plots like these. I find this manga as something that someone could possible use if they wish to kill someone and get away with it. Ha Ha. But seriously, I've been a fan of this series since 2005 and I love it. I tried collecting all the episodes, but I gave up, I own about 400 to 500 episodes. It never ends does it? I think that since so many days have gone by so far, why hasn't anybody aged yet? Ran should be close to graduating, and Shinichi will probably have to repeat a few years for missing so much. When is he ever going to solve the mystery with the Black Organization. I've had enough of the side stories, and I want the climax!! I wonder if it'll EVER end. Another reason I want it to end soon, is because I want AG to start picking up on Magic Kaito again.

I truthfully admire this manga !! Shinichi/Conan is remarquably intelligent..no he's a genius!!and unlike what someone said conan did make some mistakes:ex:in the case with Yukiko and when his father appeared he did miss some point in his deduction that his father cleared up,and in the side story of upcoming movie 14(can't wait to see it),Conan and Heiji thought that the mother abandoned her child yet it was wrong!!XD Moreover,Shinichi's capacities of deduction are better than Heiji's which is revealed at their first encounter,though their pattern of thinking might be alike and they usually discover clues together ,Shinichi is always ahead of him(you might understand what i mean if you're a crazy DC fan like me ,through the episodes)Plus he's handsome and I love his smile (I won't lose to you Ran XD) As for the character they're so cool!!! Kaitou Kid is one of my favourite char !! he's charming and elegant !I also love Ran b'cause she's cute ,strong , kind and so patient(guess why ) I love Haibara also!!she's so cool,pretty and mysterious!!!
If you like high quality mystery novels with light romance , DC is a must ead!! Good Job Aoyama sama!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you can see from the number of chapters, this is not a typical manga. It's more accurate to say that it's a collection of mystery stories involving the same characters. There is no overall development in the story or characters. You can jump ahead 100 chapters, and not see any significant changes in the story. Conan also does not change or learn; he is the same person in chapter 600 as he is in chapter 1. I found this style very repetitive and boring to read.

As for the mysteries, with very few exceptions, they are so unrealistically complex (often involving tons of props) that there's no way you can solve them alongside the character. So, each chapter becomes nothing more than a brag about how smart Conan is.

I strongly recommend that you avoid this manga. It does have high ratings but, as far as I can tell, every reviewer says that he's dropping it, so I don't understand why they're giving high ratings to a series that they can't stand to finish.

Okay I will admit that I really loved this series for many, many, years. It showed such potential. I liked how you figured out a lot of the mysteries as the series progressed, and the relationship between Conan/Ai in itself kept me reading this. HOWEVER, considering how long it's been dragging on, I can't give it any more than a 7/10. When he was back on the forty-somethingish volume, I thought he would finish it by volume 50. He's on volume 67 right now, and there's still no end in sight. I mean, there's a limit to how long, unrealistic, and repetitive a manga can be. Sometimes I think that the mangaka is just trying to keep his income flowing from this story's popularity.... wake me up when its finished...

OMG, when this series will end??
This series brings analytical mind n logical thinking to solve cases. Of course, aoyama gosho is great, he can make great detective story with lot of tricks. But somehow, there are too many unrealistic things in the manga. If so.... I'd better read Doraemon because Nobita and Conan have similarity. Nobita always on 4th grade n Conan always on 1st grade.
How many cases Conan have solved as the season changed.. From summer to summer again... then summer again.... then.... just count any summer or winter in the manga, and he still in 1st grade (Unrealistic 1). Also He made himself the detective who can solve more than hundred cases, with no flaw at all (Unrealistic 2)
And there are a looot of murder case for Conan, almost 95% of the cases told someone has been murdered. no other variation of crimes. After 40 volumes above, i feel the case repetitive. Why does everytime he go there always someone being murdered? Is he cursed? (Unrealistic 3)
And.... How stupid Kagoro is? In reality he could be real idiot or already brain washed for not noticing so many case that he solved but not realizing. You don't have to be detective to realize that something strange happen with our memory n body (Unrealistic 4).
I think the mangaka put the detective title for kagoro, just for smoothing Conan's work through the series.

This series also has plot, at the beginning at the series. So they shouldn't lost focus. If the mangaka likes cases, from the first start it was a mistake to make a plot for the main char. Just make it like Mushishi, Kino no Tabi, Jigoku no Shoujo, Yugo - The Negotiator (this one is very good) ,etc.. those series stressed more about the story of each case, not to the story of main character.
I love plot, and I think the main idea of each manga is important. So i don't really like if the main plot got scatter for too long long time. I have waiting for more than 10 years and that's enough... So I just want to know how Conan will end up the organization and back in his old body (Shinichi Kudo).
I think this series has a bit far from the track...
