lots of characters, therefore lots of storylines, and each one is pretty interesting. the author takes its time to describe her characters in depth, but overall great manga. long, but enjoyable. pretty funny, romantic and realistic. thumbs up

It was interesting until they actually got together. Now it's almost a chore to read through it. I may give it another try later, but I can only handle so much of their repetitive, overly virtuous, generically sappy thoughts (which seem to have taken over the manga).
To be honest I'm also not really a fan of how there characters were drawn. Guess it just isn't everyone's cup of tea :3

I rarely comment on a Manga but this one deserves a few lines. It has been a while since I finished reading Kare Kano and even after reading tons of similar stories over time this still is one of my favorite romantic mangas.
The beginning does such a wonderful job of introducing the two main characters: their own persons, strong and funny with their foibles and insecurities, so human and likeable that at once I was hooked. That made it impossible for me to put it down until I read the end.
There are some flaws that stopped me from giving it a 10; mainly what I included in the spoiler above. However the fact that I still think fondly and can clearly recall both Miyazawa Yukino and Arima Soichiro and can re-read those first and last volumes with the same enjoyment I experienced the first time I read them is a clear testament to this manga's value. If you have not read this manga, I urge you to try it. You will not regret it!

Even if it is true that the middle includes the stories of their friends that some will find unnecessary and the fact that unrealistically every single one seemed to find a happy ending by then I was simply in love with both Yukino and Soichiro so much that I could not stop until I reached the end of their story.

I really like Kare Kano in the way that the main characters fall for each other in a realistic sort of way.
The main girl, Yukino, lives off of compliments and attention. She's a big attention whore, and she'll behave like a role model to get all the attention she wants. She's a completely different person when she's at home (wears baggy clothes, glasses, and acts like an unruly person), while at school she's gentle, modest, and always gets the highest grades. Her dream of getting the most attention is shattered when a new guy, Arima, gets higher scores than she, and thus gets more attention than she does.
She gets angry, jealous, and wants to destroy him. She does this by secretly being nice to him, even telling him she likes to listen to classic music. Because she's acting so nice to him, Arima brings up his courage to tell her that he likes her. Yukino is absolutely overjoyed by this, because it means she has him under her finger. On a later day, Arima unexpectedly drops by Yukino's house to give her a CD, and she's discovered by him for what she truly is; a fraud. With this new information in line, Arima blackmails Yukino in doing paperwork for him, in return for keeping quiet about her facade.
It was a wonderful story, really, if it had ended there. A story about two people who act like someone else to get through life, find each other and fall for each other. It was nice and realistic, and this is also usually where I stop reading, because afterwards, the story is overtaken by drama and minor characters. Every single minor character in this story gets a day in the spotlight, and it's so annoying to read about, especially when the main characters aren't even in the chapter. And of course, every minor character has to have someone they like, and all get a happy ending ... it gets wishy washy

During this time, Yukino slowly begins to like Arima as well, but is afraid he doesn't like her anymore because he saw her true self. However, it seems he does still like her, and eventually, gradually I might say, they finally get together.

which is why I prefer to end the manga at the time Yukino and Arima get together.

Everything was going alright, but how everyone was just OK with Yukino's pregnancy is just weird. I understand if Yukino's mother reacted that way since thats her go with the flow mom. but how Yukino reacted to the situation herself was just.. plain "just".
and i gotta admit the age difference between maho and her boyfriend freaked me out a bit, but hey, ive seen worse here in this world.
but i did enjoy the ending. not realistic but made me happy =)

Art (10%): 10
The art is nice and clean. It is a nice mix between shoujo and realism if that makes sense. The chibi parts are done nicely and makes the story funnier.
Story (40%): 9
This story has one of my most favorite plots. Two people seemingly perfect but are really putting up a facade. I didn't really like how part of the story is mostly thoughts but that is my own personal opinion. I do like how the mangaka reshow the beginning of the manga in Arima's point of view. The story is amazing overall and one of my favorites.
Character (40%): 10
One of the best parts of this manga is the characters. All of the characters become likable and all of them develop (even the side characters). This is one of my most favorite part because stories rarely develop all of the characters including the side characters. The characters themselves are also funny and I love how they all develop their own relationships (and I mean develop not "when/how did she get together with him").
Enjoyment (10%): 10
This part doesn't really need a comment, I just enjoyed reading the story.
Total Score: 9.6

I read this about two years ago. I was pretty young (and still am ) and in-experienced with manga, but at the time i thought it was really amazing. If you're looking for one of those manga's where u see the characters grow up from knowing nothing to becoming more mature and much stronger, then this is for you. You get the whole story with this manga. Many things are resolved, from what i remember, and the post ending is absolutely amazing. I always hated the mangas that don't explain anything and especially the ones that climax on the last chapter with only a few pages of post ending!! Reading those always frustrated me to the max. In this manga i felt you really knew the characters as you get their entire life explained to you. As i said before its been a while since i read this, but, thinking back on all the manga and anime i've experienced, none have really explained things and rarely dwell on the post ending, which is very important to me, or explained the romances and life afterwards in full detail. I don't think ill re-read this, as in the past i've done with a previous Rpg that i thought was one of the best to turn out not as good. Not saying that this manga is just so-so. Just that i don't want to see its bad qualities. In-fact, please read it Just not twice!!

I started reading this, and it was okay. The plot wasn't super amazing but it has some cute/funny moments and the artwork is okay. I've put it on hold now however, it's just so long and very little seems to happen so it feels as though it drags a bit. It's an okay manga, but there are a lot more with more to offer than this one.
