Comical

Fans of The Shining may like this manga: It contains a scene where one of the characters starts breaking down doors with an axe in search of the MC. Yes, I'm serious. And sadly, this isn't a horror story. Don't get me wrong, I love drama (Bokura ga Ita and Mars for shoujo examples), but this manga is SO DRAMATIC that the characters, who suffer from bizarre mood swings, personality changes, lapses in rationality and the typical shoujo misunderstandings, are essentially caricatures who bear no resemblance to actual human beings. Logical plans are occasionally devised and instantly abandoned. Loose strings, lying everywhere, are kicked around by the characters as they run around in emotional turmoil. Everything works out with both their professional and personal lives in the end - but don't ask me how.

All that said, this manga isn't absolutely terrible. There are cute and funny bits. Despite the excess of drama, the plot being old as the sun and the inconstant characterization, I didn't drop it and I didn't feel viciously angry after finishing it. But it's the equivalent of watching a television show like Jersey Shore - the bizarre behaviour of the people is interesting, but there's no substance there whatsoever.

When I reading a manga, usually 1 of 2 things happen. I forget the cheesy, complicated stuff and just enjoy the mood and story of the manga or I start to skip chapters or stop reading altogether.... But I am happy to say that I got to truly enjoy the manga. I have read it twice already lol and despite some of it being a little complicated for some readers to truly understand (beware there is a obsessed crazy stalker man in this, haha), I found it quite easy to do so and found myself getting whisked away in the moment sometimes....
The ending was good and the art wasn't bad either. Also had a good mix of romance and drama/suspense.
I recommend to those looking for a shoujo manga out of the norm. 10/10

seriously i read all the scanlated chapters in one sitting!! i knew it!! i really, really knew it! i was so addicted back then to Tail of the Moon so i was really afraid that i will get addicted to this a well and yet here i am succumbing into the sweet, sweet goodness of shoujo.. *sigh* i really love RINKO UEDA- sensei.. she makes me happy!

its like shes reading my mind.. this manga has everything that im a sucker for! a tsundere guy, a creepy-evil guy who falls for the heroine, a butler, a stupid elder brother and a beautiful historical setting and im quite getting hooked on the rich boy- poor girl romances!! i love it!!

if it isnt for all those moments were in she always gets almost raped and me cussing at her for being so damn stupid and her lack of common sense, i like Sumi. well she a responsible elder sister, the kind i can only hope to be and shes your typical genki-genki heroine which i dont really hate..

and of course the art is beautiful and the bishies are HOT!! XD

it also gave me the same "butterfly in your stomach i cant breathe" feeling that Tail of the Moon gave me..

gosh im so happpppyy!~!

do you really have to ask for my rating? biggrin

>edit<
well, that ended.. well. it was kind of a bust how it ended, the beginning was just so good.. and it delivered to allmy expectations but around the middle not that i started hating it but Nozumo was just whatever.. it was still tolerable but the ending just happened out of nowhere but you cant expect it to go on forever can you? im giving this a 8/10 cause the beginning was such a hooker!

Spiral out of control

Oh god, why Ueda-sensei, WHY?! I became a fan of her because of her other work Tail of the Moon and I had high expectations for this manga. But the ending was quite forced because the story spiraled it so out of control and there didn't seem a way to save the story. So I had a feeling Ueda-sensei didn't know how to end it either and just stick some stupid ending, hoping to satisfy her fans.

Out of all her works, this manga really made me hate her for creating this series. I'm too depressed to write a decent review, beside blabbing my broken heart over a poorly-made series.

Sorry to say, but not recommend for fans out there. It'll make people regret buying the series. Just stick to Tail of the Moon

rereading after dropping

I dropped this series I don't know around when there was way too much drama. I have to say things have gone a little bit better. The drama was toned down so I was really happy. smile

Plot: Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop Flop
This manga had a promising plot. It wasn't original but it was interesting but then soo much drama was added into it. This is when I dropped the manga around the part were they were homeless. After many months I picked it up again there was still drama which made me cry but it had gotten better. I laughed so much when Nozomu picked up the axe. I don't know whether it was suppose to make me scared but it was HILARIOUS!

Characters: They all have no brains
Sumi was the stupidest and most naive character I have ever come across. I thought that it was planned like this: The dumb girl grows stronger throughout the series. WRONG. She has not gotten any smarter or stronger and is still the weak pathetic girl she started out to be. Souichou was you typcial arrogant rich guy who would eventually fall in love with Sumi. When he got homeless and started working like a real man I was all like 'WORK PRETTY BOY WORK! WHO'S NOT RICH NOW!!' I really hated him. Nomozu was probably the best character in the series. I thought he was a real gentleman but all changed when he tried to commit suicide with Sumi in the burning house. He got darker and more manipulative. He was the only character with development. The butler has no brain. After Souichriou I hate him the most.

Art: Was pretty smile
Probably the best thing about this manga

I reccomend this manga to anyone who really really really really really really really loves drama.

I loved Tail of the Moon, and so far I like this one a lot too. The characters are cute and stereotypical, but that's ok. Yes, the main female character is a bit dumb, but she was after all, pulled from the gutter by the main male character. She was uneducated and a bit out of touch with the real world - so she's going to be a bit dumb. Even the mangaka said in volume 1 that she chose to do a formula story. I think she's handling it well. I'm guessing this will turn out a little like Tail of the Moon where the girl learns and developes out of the beginning phase by the end of the story. The characters are good in this one. They have depth in the fact that one minute you love them and the next you want to slap them upside the head. This type of emotional response makes for a good read. If you have no emotional response to characters in a story, then they weren't developed properly. This manga is worth reading. The artwork is very nice as well.

I've read till the recent scanslated chapter (16 & 23) but it's still too early for me to give a definite rating.

I have enjoyed it so far, despite seeing a whole lot of negative reviews about Sumi being stupid or that the plot is weak.
I read manga to destress and clear my head of things related to assignments and projects, not to analyze each character for its flaws and plots for its weakness. I get enough of analyzing and interpreting from my course already.

I hope that Ueda-sensei has a comfortable time while on her leave. biggrin

I Could Not Dislike This Manga More

WOW, I hated this. Let's break this down:
- FMC was totally a Mary Sue. Hated her to an extent in which I physically could not handle sometimes.
- Her love interest was such a snob. Horrible cliche that honestly is super toxic to younger readers. Sort of like "OMG, hey, if he's hot and rich, just deal with it, you can change him."
- Therefore the romantic development, character development, and the plot development fell through into other cliches. I don't think I've ever seen a mangaka shove so many cliches into one overall manga.
- REALLY REALLY HISTORICALLY INACCURATE
- Way too dramatic for a boring plot that tried to dress itself up as "advanced"
- Eh, art is okay, but I've seen better, and I hate using it as a good point because the storytelling was so poor

TL;DR: Hated it. So much. It reveals everything I hate about shoujo, despite being an avid shoujo fan. If you want to avoid cliches, annoying characters, and just a terrible plot, then don't read it. Plus, it has such a toxic mindset in regards to relationships. Therefore, 1/10.

I swear. This manga has the most evil bad guy of any manga I've ever read.

Loved it.

Has a lot of typical shoujou stuff (tsundere/arraigned marriages/miscommunication/etc etc), but stays interesting despite that. Has a lot of heart. Also has a lot of STUPID. But, yeah. Still love it.
