Description
From Shoujo Manga Maniac:
Chigusa Tsukikage holds the rights to the play "The Crimson Goddess," a lost masterpiece that many would love to see brought back to the stage.
Tsukikage, however, won't allow the cherished work to be diminished by an actress who isn't worthy of playing the title role. Fortunately, she has found two young actresses that just might be worthy: Maya Kitajima and Ayumi Himekawa. Though both actresses are exceptionally talented, only one can win the coveted role.

A classic

This is one of those timeless manga like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The writing really does credit to the classic plays that are featured in it. This isn't one of countless shoujo manga where the story is merely a vehicle for the romantic relationship the author wants to push.

Excelent manga, this is not quite shoujo but the passion about acting, except for Hajime no Ippo, Lone Wolf and Cub and a couple moreI didn't have this feeling when reading a manga

I started reading this series yesterday and have barely managed to stop to sleep and go to class. Something about the story just won't let me stop reading. I usually hate super-long series and almost didn't read it becuase it's so long, but Glass Mask is definitally an exception.

This manga is my favorite manga of all time but the author discontinued this I think. I've been reading this since I was in elementary school and now, when I'm in college, I still waiting for the new one but... there' none so far. *sigh

The story focuses more on acting than romance but there are some parts which are totally cute which make you say: "aw..."

The characters are also lovable. Very interesting and unique compared to other shoujo mangas.

Satisfying....If only...

This story was very melodramatic (especially towards the end and during the beginning), but I loved how it focused on the girl's career and life in general rather than the typical love-love scenarios. The art was indeed "classical," and definitely took me awhile to get used to... In fact, the art is so off-putting that I wanted to slam my computer every time one of those dramatic thunder-eyes showed up.

Unfortunately, I disliked the main character a lot. Her insanity is not inspiring to me... and her strange expressions make it hard for me to pity her. I mean, what normal child drools when she goes to the theater? And who looks so drunk every time she opens her eyes?! Ayumi was the one I was drawn to throughout the manga, and she is the girl who I found more inspiring than anyone else.

The main character just scares me.

Other than the art, the story was entertaining and I finished the whole thing in 2-3 days! The love relationships can get a bit confusing though.... I've already forgotten who the girl ended up with.

I understand this is a classic and all but still.... I got through about 23 volumes so you can't say i didnt try. My main problem is that i skipped to read the latest chapter and i knew excatly what was going on. I dont feel that their is any significant development or plot twists during the course of this story. It is like the glass mask is frozen in time. And there is so much melodrama its hard to stoumach.

I am also saying this as a huge fan of skip beat. Breaking the stigma that a fan of one will love the other. I find kyoko a much more likeable character than maya, and i find the roles she plays more interesting, mostly because her characters like mio and natsu never disapear and she continues to develop them and use them to help her with diffrent potrayals. The romance in skip beat is also more fun. I dont even see the point of having romance in the glass mask. I didnt gind it sad and beautiful i just thaught it seemed overdramatic boring and forced. I can also never even imagine maya jumping into daitos arms. I cant see the two leads together i feel like thats a problem.

*** edit so i picked it back up and i am reading the newer chapters, i completely left out the middle of the manga haha. and now that spoiler alert!!

maya knows hayami's identity and everything. it is a lot more interesting. plus now the whole crimson goddess thing is beginning and i like that.
i am even enjoying the romance smile
