Worth reading

Though it is SO flawed and the romance is so naive Basara is one of the best SHOJO mangas i have ever read. It is so unlike all that crap that's out today that you have to love it, even though it was made in 1991. The characters are real and it made me cry so many times when i thought some of the characters were going to die, i felt bad for the romance though it was undeveloped and too soon.
Sure the main character cries a lot but put in the situation she is i can see why, the drawings may not be the best but the story is amazing.
Please give it a chance, i don't think its boring maybe you won't either.

I never write reviews because I'm too lazy but I just can't help writing a review for Basara. I sincerely regret putting off this manga for so long just because it doesn't have good art. The story flows beautifully and it has a lot of detail. Basara has some great character development as well. Even the art seems beautiful when you get into it. It's got everything you could hope for and more, much more. Two weeks after reading this manga, I still can't stop coming back to reread it. This is really the BEST shoujo manga I have ever read - if you can call it shoujo (it's not the typical superficial boy meets girl, fall in love, kind of shoujo that you forget all about in two seconds). Instead of scrolling down and reading all the comments, start reading this manga. Basara is definitely worth your time. When I started reading, I kind of dreaded it because it was 27 volumes long, but once I started, I couldn't stop reading! I stayed up the whole night, finishing the series in one sitting, and I still want more. Please read this manga, or you'll be missing out on one of the best classics ever. It's better than Naruto, Bleach, Skip Beat, Dengeki Daisy, Vampire Knight, and all those other popular titles put together.

Basara, where can i start? It is wonderfully flawed and naive but throughly enjoyable saving for few parts. The manga is really long and i found it a bit tedious to finish. What kept me going was the side characters and i really could not warm-up to the romance of the manga. Spolier alert: I am unable to understand how the two mains can fall in love so easily. I am not a romantic so forgive me. I would have enjoyed the manga more if not for the romance all though that is the integral part of the story.
Story wise it is not new or unique but at the time of release (1992) it must have definitely been a welcome change from other shojou mangas of that time.
i would recommend it for a weekend read if you don't have anything better to do.

btw i loved asagi and nachi <3

I read this manga for the first time when I was in 7 grade, I can't even read it until the end cuz I doesn't like it at all, but, after a few years, about when I in my 12 grade, I read this manga again & I came to love It alot, it's a good manga, I wonder why I doesn't like this before, maybe because I was too young at that time.......
(Sorry for my poor English, I'm really not good at all)

A few years ago I started reading Basara only dropping it soon afterward because the art was bothering me a lot..Later on I began reading 7 Seeds and got hooked that's when I decided to read Basara since the scanlations were finished. I would give the story a 8/10. Character development 9/10. Art.. well you get used to it. This manga reminds me of Saver so go check it out if you really liked Basara. I think it's even better in my opinion..I gotta say Ageha was my favorite among all the characters! Oh and the ending could of been better.. you'll see what I mean. The extra stories were a big plus though~!

Can't believe it's done... This was one of those stories that get you so immersed into it, that you feel sad when it's finished. I wanted more, but at the same time the mangaka gave just enough. The ending was great. She made sure each character has a "closure".

I loved the fact that each character was relevant to the plot, and that they developed with the story. The main characters' internal struggles felt real.
I'm so glad I ended up reading this manga.

This manga was one of the best I ever read. The story is really deep and you can empathize with the characters. You can follow how they get stronger and get over hardships. Legend of Basara was really great and I shed the one or another tear, because it was so emotional.

What - in my opinion - was really not necessary was Ageha`s death. Really I cried almost half an hour. He was one of my favourite characters. No one was as cool as he!

No. I dont regret reading this. I regret putting this manga off for like three years and spent my time wasted on cliche boring shoujo mangas. I mean, I'm just on chapter 35 as of now and I cant wait to finish it, or rather, I dont want to finish it at all! I regret putting this on my wish list for ages because I was put off with the odd art (back then it was odd for me) and i thought the story was a bit dull and people just kept talking about it and I realized, for the first time, I found a shoujo manga actually worrth reading.it's just so awesome, the character's are great, the plot is good and ahh..the 'thing' about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sarasa and Shuri being lovers when they hate each other as Tatara and Red King. Gah, I just cant wait for the time when they both find out who each other are or, sometimes, I dont eevn want them to know.lol
so anyways, one of the best. It was ages since I'm doing a one long series marathon and i'm actually enjoying it. I love the realism, tragedy and the way fate plays with their lives. I've never been this excited over a classic manga for a long time, the last one being Versailles no Bara. I reccomend it to anyone who is tired of modern stupid heroines.
Edit: I just finished this (finally) and all I can say is, the ending was great! Yeah,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Shuri and Sarasa didnt die and everything was peaceful
but it could've been better if
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
they died together, well, you know like kind of romeoxjuliet.
but anw, each character had something going on and they resolve it at the end. Especially the prophecy for Ageha the 'One day you'll meet a woman worth dying for' and those were the words I couldn't forget, ever. Asagi's self discovery and Sarasa's growth. You just cant hate anyone, not even Ginko.

Just read the whole thing, but still can't figure out why so many are in love with this.
It's true that it was good, it was long and heroic. It wasn't very interesting though. I know this story's from 20th ct., but it was just like any other kids adventure book. There wasn't really anything that gave you the urge to keep on reading aside from boredom and full pockets of time to waste.
It's good that there is something you want to waste your time for, but it's not if you do that because there's nothing else to do.
In my opinion everything in this story was decent, just good enough.

One of the best shoujos ive ever read

I had this on my wish list for a while now and i kept hearing people talk about it so i though id give it a chance. IT WAS AMAZING!!! The art wasn't the best but it got better, and the plot was epic. It wasn't predictable like alot of other mangas i've read. The plot kept moving and wasn't entirely focused on the romance, but about the revolution.

I loved all the character but there were some i learned to love such as Asagi. What i liked best was the follow up stories about the other characters and even though there were about a million and two characters, Tamura sensei didn't forget about any of them. (I wished there was a follow up story about Chacha though....) In most shoujos the characters forget about the bad things that happened but the characters in Basara embraced what happened in the past and learned from it, I could see all the characters grow from begining to end. Sarasa is a crybaby but I think she deserves to be one because of all she did for her country and the people. She never give up. Even when crying she moved forward. This is my favourite shoujo manga. I strongly recommend everyone to read this.
