Good art, sh*tty main character.

Sexist. The girl is annoying. Too needy, dependent. Makes females look bad. :/ The male is a little more charming then the average male, and is more likeable then the heroine. The art was good so I'll give it a 5.

When I first started reading, it was pretty decent. I liked how the girl was strong-willed and different from all the others (by others, I mean the typical shoujo girl). newho, It WAS interesting, but then it got too boring because the same things are happening over and over again.

Guy does something> girl freaks out (misunderstands)> girl tries to solve problem> messes up or tries relle hard to fix it, but can't> misunderstanding is explained > they love each other> end.
(Something along the lines of that)

Butttt... despite that , I haven't dropped it on the off chance that it gets good.

OVERALL in my opinion, this manga is not unbearable, but not mind blowingly amazing either. Maybe once upon a time, but definately not now. hopefully in the future....

No, no, no.
Technically, i don't think the guy is at fault here, or maybe it's just me - i'm a feminist, surprise surprise. Seeing this stupid, dumb creation of what is a female just crying, crying and crying basically every single chapter because 'oh, he doesn't love me' or 'it's all my fault' is just painful. I forgot what an asshole the guy was, seeing the girl reacting the way she was just irked me to the max. And does every girl need to be selfless, caring and immensely forgiving? Can't a shoujo manga lead be the opposite for once! I would love for a slutty heroine to be in a shoujo manga! It would rock my world. ==

Cliches drop like bombs in World Wars here. Heck, they're everywhere. Sure, i wanted to see them have sex for the sake of it (why do i read smut?). But she doesn't need to blush everytime the guy touches her, or for everything that happens. And please, don't keep dragging and prolonging the bloody manga. It's just the same thing happening over and over again. Random bitch pops up, big obstacles, sad and troubled past, have to go overseas, we've seen it all. For the sake of it, just give it a sweet and satisfactory ending and all will be happy. smile

That being said, don't expect a lot from Minami Kanan; she's the best at creating useless heroines. I'd rather read Shinjo Mayu's works.
I would love to give this a 0, if possible. Well, since it's impossible, i'll give the art a 1. smile

P.S. oh, one of the tags has 'character growth' on it, and very big letters at that! Would someone kindly tell me how character growth is shown in this manga? I would GREATLY appreciate it, you know? -_-

I read this because of its popularity on manga websites. At first I was horror-stricken. Then I reminded myself of the smut genre, the fact that it's shoujo, and that it could be worse - somehow I swallowed it better. I hate cliches, but this is cliches cliches cliches everywhere, so much that I've become immune to it in this series, because I don't take it seriously. Some series are like that, you read it lightly, but you don't take it seriously. I can't remember which chapters I read. I only read the beginning and then skipped around a few of the newer ones. It's pretty much the same, except at first, the guy was absolutely horrible. Even for shoujo. His douchiness rivaled that of Kuran Kaname's in Vampire Knight (just in a different way), which was a first for my eyes. But then his character toned down and evened out a bit, and lo and behold, he turns out to be a sweet guy ect. Predictable, but I guess better than remaining as he was in the beginning. And the girl Tsubaki, despite being ridiculously infuriating, has a strange appeal in the sense that she doesn't give up on improving herself and she's not portrayed as a saint, just clueless and hesitant. A little more self-respect could help though, but I guess that's too much to ask for a smut manga. (Though I honestly think it would have been better if it wasn't smut, just an average shoujo comic. Somehow it seemed forced.) Overall, the art is the highest rated category. Really nice art. Hair, eyes, ect.

I'd recommend this to people who like shoujo or don't mind unrealistic relationship dynamics.

It's a great shoujo, the beginning was awesome, but there is a lot of cliché. We're at volume 11 and i'm starting to lost interest in it.
The art is good besides.
Let's see where we're at later in 2 or 3 volumes.

While this manga may be labeled smut or mature content, but it has a good story. Is it cliche? Yes, Is it entertaining? Yes. Kyou Koi wo Hajimemasu is a good look at the choices every one has to make regarding sex. The very fact that this manga is labeled smut even though there is no sex taking place says a lot about the story's focus. The main female character is interesting but unoriginal. The main guy character is the same. But even with the cliched characters, cheesy dialogue, and the smut label, this series gives the reader a good romance story, a story about a girl gaining some confidence, and a story about sexual awakening. Is it the best thing you are likely to read? No, not even close. But if you like the cheesy factor of Shojo, and the cliches that are common in all romance manga then you are going to enjoy this story. bigrazz

To me, this manga is like a trashy novel, I'm slightly embarrassed to be reading it and yet I still do. Everyone has guilty pleasures and although this manga is very cliché , the characters are frustrating and it's horrendously predictable, I love it.

Extremely cliche in the beginning, but if you are willing to give it time it definitely becomes a manga that is distinctive then any other manga out there, and maybe even border line realistic

Defines shojo

the epitome of shojo cliche: girl that blushes/bawls at EVERYTHING, girl blames herself and angst for a good 10+ chapters, main guy "likes" her but will avoid her because of past childhood trauma(srly? that is the best they can come up with?), he is a huge jerk yet the girl still moping all over him, and protagonist's dreams in the initial chapters dissolve into a static monologue of rhetoric waste of space. I don't hate shojo genre(there are decent/ excellent ones) but this just made my inner feminist cry in agony and brought out the reasons why i moved away from shojo in the first place.

This manga is no different from your typical dime a dozen shojo stories. After multiple volumes of reading, the plot still had very little real passion/development. It's one draw-in is that the male lead is drawn in an exceptionally handsome way. However, the more you read, the more you discover the male lead also has NO personality. This "may" be addicting to girls who prioritize a very sexy male lead, and don't mind a tiresomely cliche school-girl story line.
It was not my cup of tea.
