The Best (update)

I love it. Story is interesting and keeps me hooked. I wish it was seinen to be honest. This is being plain picky but I don't like how every claymore has a huge overbite when they fight... Also (this doesn't affect my rating) it annoys me that this story doesn't look like it will finish anytime soon and yet it is being released in a monthly magazine....Reminds me of Berserk....

updated for 139. The past 50 chapters or so have really not made much progress. The story line is getting really dull.

Can anyone tell me why this is included under the tragedy genre.. I am thinking, a book is a tragedy when something really sad and depressing happens to the main character towards the end of the manga.....

Best Shonen Manga

Finally, a shonen fighting manga where all the characters have well-developed backstories and the main character is actually SMART! If you're sick of lunkheads like One Piece's Luffy and the childish moralizing of Naruto, than here's a dark fantasy fighting series you could take seriously.

plot is most definately not "lame"
claymore is different from most other shounen, and is pretty good
obviously you need to read it to decide, but it is worth it. i'm not particularly a shounen fan, but i enjoy this series a lot.

this is an entertaining manga

plot is lame, characters are generic but due to it's genre its a lot better than many other series in the same genre, overall its a somewhat generic shonen

if you like tales of monsters and medival times, like i do, then i recommend this.

update: recently the manga has been going in an unexpected direction, the plot is becoming less cliched with each chapter. this manga is definitely worth a look into.

RE: Slow beginning, but worthy plot.

I agree with Grandiloquent. Clare was such an insipid, cardboard character, I almost felt sorry for her; even the supporting characters had more personality than she did. The events in the story defined her person, when it should have been the other way around. Not until we were shown Clare's younger incarnation did I even consider her worthy to be the story's lead.

The entry of Teresa was the event that ignited my interest, particularly because she's the touchstone of what a strong, powerful female in a shonen series should be. I cannot imagine Claymore without Teresa, because without her, Clare would have remained two-dimensional.

Regarding the plot development, I'm not going to pretend that I think the recent turn of events revealed by Miria is even remotely original--it's not. In fact, it's cliched. BUT, I'm a firm believer that cliches DO work and that they can be used over and over again. All that matters is the execution, and I believe Claymore doesn't disappoint. At least, not yet (and hopefully, never).

Slow beginning, but worthy plot.

In a nutshell: -1 point for the sloooow, pointless build-up. -1 point for lack of character development and predictability. +1 for interesting plot twist and potential. Therefore: 9/10

The first two (or three) volumes were unbearably bland. It wasn't until the story of Teresa did the plot actually seem to go anywhere. The character development is...lacking, to say the least. Clare basically HAS no character; very two-dimensional, imo. But hey, it's a shounen, where we only really care about action, plot, and crazy insane power boosts, amirite? ;)

But! After reading up to the most recent release (c83), very interesting plot possibilities open up. Interesting concept with lots of potential. However, it was predictable in the sense that when Mirai revealed her findings, I was not surprised. Still, I'm hooked. And look forward to the next release. <3

Better than anime

I really enjoyed the anime except for the poor ending. Friend told me the anime ending deviated from manga, that's why it sucked. I read this from the beginning, and it's more and more amazing with each chapter. At ch.80ish, there's a HUGE bombshell, completely changes the scope of this series. One word. Epic.
