An excellent story! Well written. Even if you are not into yaoi, skim by those pics and read on. Yaoi fans will love this one for the story and in depth relationships illustrated. It is a really great story. I really enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to a side story etc.
Very realistic!

Wow it´s my first time to read such a surprisingly good story (really really awsome plot) about prisoners and their rough lifestyle. I was blown away, it was so interesting till that point I that forgot the time hahah. My first impression of UGH wasn´t good because I used to read soft romantic BL stories...but I´m so happy I tried this manga and because of this reading-experience I have now widen my boundaries about multiplicity of the world of yaoi.
Ps! Oh yeah I´m so glad this one got a nice happy ending, it makes you enjoy the story in wholesome (^3^)//

This is such a great series that really sucks you in it! The characters are very interesting. The plot is great with the very new idea of an american prison. You can never really predict what's going to happen next. It's definitely NOT your average yaoi series. It doesn't matter at all who's the uke and who's the seme. They're all pretty manly and have guts and they all have their good and bad points, which is exactly what makes it even more realistic. So, it deserves to be thought of as a rare item! I hope everybody enjoyed it as much as I did.
great, great, best!

seriously, this is one of the best yaoi mangas I've read. Besides the fact that Sword is uber-sexy, hot and delicious piece of man *drool*. Since I'm mostly writing these comments for myself for times to come, I won't talk much to get others into the story as well. But if you have time and sense to read about the inmate life, then do it for Christ's sake, because this is as good as it can get;)
Amazing

Note: SPOILER
I liked this one a lot. What the previous posters have said is true: if you're looking for girly, feminine characters, this is not it. But you will find realistic men who can stand up for themselves and who adapt to a harsh world. After I read the first 1-2 chapters, I thought Sadahiro-sensei might sugarcoat the world they're in, but after a few more chapters, I realized she doesn't. Let me warn you: I ended up hating almost every character in the books at least once (yes, even Sen, if only briefly) because of the things they do and the choices they make. However, at least Sadahiro-sensei makes interesting characters and plots that keep you wanting to know what happens. None of her characters are one-dimensional. And I was surprised that with the world she created, she managed to write a happy ending.

OMG! this story is the hottest and most touching story i have encountered since Ai no kusabi! I m really not over-reacting cuz i haven't seen a lot of impressive stuff since that. This manga is one of a kind, i really wished more ppl would make more yaoi mangas with more different cultures and origins other than the usual american/japanese. Maybe that s also why this is quite a captivating series...the different skin colors. Tho Sword is american, he is a BLACK american, which can be a totally different culture to some. Something i haven't seen a lot in yaoi. maybe it s cuz ppl are a little intimidated about the idea, or cuz they didn't think it would be hot enough. But after some time u don't even notice the skincolors, unless it's pointed out. i can truly say that the mangaka did a great job. Sword is truly a bishonen, even with all that tough act. And Sen is also very handsome but in the manly way, which makes this great yaoi (to me at least) since everyone starts out straight LOL. I can't say it s reality cuz this kind of relationship seems very unlikely in a place like that, but i guess that's the whole point, it's not too farfetched. This is definately NOT average cuz otherwise i wudn't have bothered. Every little thing fits perfectly, it's as if the mangaka was reading it off a wall and knew exactly what they were doing. I can fully recommend this to anyone who enjoys excellent plots, even without the graphic sex it would still be an interesting story.

The art is quite good, the frames actually have a background, and the characters aren't feminine, as you'd find in most yaoi mangas.
The prison background and intrigues are interesting and, although is lack the racial variety of oz (the hbo TV series), it manages to justify the drugs, violence, prostitution and the abundance of homosexual relationships (or should I say intercourse).
Swordfish rules the drug-trade in ugh, always gets what he wants through various means, is manipulative and sneaky, has intercourse with other male prisoners (seme)... but is homophobic, and likes to dominate his partners(not quite partners, more like sex-toys), all to help pass the time (200 years sentence).
Sen is the newbie who soon realizes his dangerous situation as the only Japanese prisoner there and tries to use Swordfish's power as a shield, trading his body for it. A very determined individual, he manages to stand alone and questions sword's utility. Unlike in most yaoi mangas, he's a uge with a lot of balls, who manages to survive on his own in a violent and dangerous world.
