From Kodansha USA:
FOR HONOR AND VENGEANCE
As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band's leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery...the land Leif called Vinland.

very good manga
A promising historical manga. Art is very good and fighting scenes are really well done. I like character and environment. If it keeps its present level and maybe goes a little more in depth it will be a great work. Lots of potentialities
Excellent manga. The art is nice, the story fully builds the characters and builds toward climatic fights. I wish more was released...but such is always desired of great manga!
I never know what to put here
The art kind of reminds me of Berserk, only more...clean? Not quite as sketchy, i guess, but very close in terms of quality imho. Plot is just a bit linear, revolving around Thorfin trying to avenge his dead father, but Vinland makes up for it in sheer badassness (is that a word?). The fighting scenes are really amazing; they have this sense of speed, motion, impact, etc that makes it seem like you're watching a movie, not pictures on a page. I love how Yukimura is able to manipulate the mood so perfectly...from the tranquility of an elder telling tales to children to the chaos of an army storming a fortress. An easy 10 from me.
And the HQ scans really do the art justice...
This is the story about the Medieval era and the Vikings. Based on the historical/realistical side, not fantasies like One Piece. So you can't compare those two. If you've read Planetes, you'll get what I mean.
Right now for the 2 volumes, we got finely realistic battles here and there, but not much explanation about weapons, the culture, or fighting style I'm interested about. We got intense good story instead.
In short, this manga got historical sense, one you would hardly get at any other manga. But since the story is pretty slow, even it feels like just beginning at the end of volume 2, I give the rating 8.
Finally, a vikings manga
This manga feels a bit different from One Piece huh huh huh
So far, read 2 volumes, and it's very good. The drawings are the best (Looks like Berserk sometimes). I can't wait for the next release.
The story is about Thorfinn, a crazy blonde teenager fighter you see on the picture above. He fights with 2 shorts swords, and he's strong. He currently sails with Askeladd, a man who killed his father. And of course, he wants to take revenge in a duel with him.
Oh, and mangascreener is doing a wonderful job with this project. Read it!
