Chun-Woo claims he can teach Shioon only if he is truly determined, and Shioon must put his life on the line to prove it. It turns out, however, that Chun-Woo and his powers are more than meets the eye. Shioon makes a grand entrance into the Murim (the hidden world of martial arts), and he is about to be taught by the best there is!

Good Art, Bad Story
Rating: 2.0 / 10.0

I love manwha. I love action. I love romance. I love fighting. I love a strong character. This manwha had all of these.

But I did NOT like it. The main character is weak. He doesn't really get stronger, other than normal shounen power ups. In fact he is what I would call a crybaby. The romance was thrown randomly in my face; there was no true build up to it.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The man in the romance was a pervert, trying to get laid throughout 9/10ths of the story, and suddenly he has lots of feelings for the girl who was hitting on him? Huh?

Actually there's no real development anywhere in this manwha. There's some plot movement, but it too was a little out there and to be honest I didn't quite understand the last part of the story. That may be because the characters were all one-dimensional and I could not connect with them at all.

I read this because so many raved and raved about it. I read it to the end hoping it would redeem itself. Nope. For me the only good thing about this story was the art.

This thing is disappointing...

It begins with promising arc, with strong willed main character that want to learn martial art in order to get stronger. Unfortunately, as the story progress, it tuns out that the main character is just some snot-nosed whiny kid who can't handle his problem.

It has similarity with History Strongest Disciple Kenichi, only HSDK have cooler version of wimp.

The Breaker is also really slow paced. It takes likes 10 chapters to finally understand why the main character is complete wimp, and another 10 chapters to try to fix it.

The comedy also isn't that funny. The only character who is really can deliver nice laugh is the martial arts teacher, which don't appear that often in the series.

Well, perhaps I'm just biased because I always like a strong willed main character which fun and not as boring as the main character in this series. But I believe that this manga is really over-rated.

After neglecting to read this some few years back, I started re-reading it from the start till finish because of the glowing reviews in here. But man, what's with the positive superlatives? Tricked me into picking this up again!

The story is dull and predictable. I was waiting for a damn twist! But alas, there is none. Romance is very cheesy (the creators know it so it's almost alright to forgive them but no. It is not a valid excuse to just mix in some lovey-dovey scenes in there haphazardly especially when they know that it is half-baked and sappy. It is so laughable that it makes me want to tear my heart out

like the 9 Dragon's master did).
Dialogues are flat. They want me to labor on reading these clichéd script when I watched Karate Kid and Kung Fu Panda already? I know I know, childish analogy but come on, who are we kidding here? Can't this manhwa just get on with the fighting already? The characters are so put out, contrived, unrelatable and showing unnecessary boobs and camel toe exposure. Am I heartless to not care for any of the characters in here? No. I've cried with the characters in varied forms of literature but this one is dastardly different. This manhwa seriously lacks character build-up that I did not care even if they'd be beaten to a pulp while spouting their holier-than-thou ideologies or end up dead in a ditch somewhere.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When that Shiho died? Good riddance. Don't think the plot moved with or without her. Her boobs and panties missing in action is a welcome sight.
And don't tell me that Shion kid was not one dimensional. From wimpy to being ass-kicker in a month? Please. I've had enough of those green characters that it makes me want to puke whenever they don't present anything new and convincing to the plethora of THOSE kind of "transformed" characters. Where are the witty characters gone?

In sum both the plot and the characters are not to die for however the kid disciple would want you to believe otherwise.

However, the martial arts are cool to look at. Capturing each attack frame by frame was refreshing since I am kind of used to not understanding what has happened on most of the fight scenes in Blade of the Immortal.

The ending: Do you take us for a fool??! We know who is gonna win, alright? Just got to hang on for the martial art moves for the next one. God, on second thought, I don't want this sequel anymore unless there would be NO useless yapping about and dammit, not showing their naughty bits here and there would really help this thing to become a bit less shallow.

PS: How did this excuse of a plot become Seinen? Because of the boobs and panty shots? The world must be crumbling. Props to the scanlation team, though.

As everyone noticed, the begining of this series is a GTO ripoff. Well, why not, some remakes are better than the original. But not this one. Everything feels industrial, every choice seems to be the result of a market research, e.g. the hero is a "cool" guy, with a mysterious motive, and its stupidness and pervertness is fake. If you're looking for a good comedy, try elsewhere.
The story seemed so lame to me that I tried to switch off my brain in order to enjoy the manhwa. But the fights scenes are sometimes ridiculous and the drawings don't make you feel any motion. The only good point is the static drawing of characters, especially big breasts girls. It won't be enough to make me read more than the first volume.

i can't stand the male lead (i.e. the wimpy student). he seriously has no sense of debt and gratitude and is way too pushy in trying to get what he wants from the teacher. yes, i can understand why he would want to learn martial arts to defend himself and protect the girl, but if placed in the shoes of the teacher and faced with Shiwoon's ridiculous actions (diving into the river? getting healed by the teacher and then calling him out early in the morning to teach him martial arts? blackmailing him in the first place?), I would totally blow him off. not to mention shiwoon really is a class A loser.

Apart from that, none of the characters are truly likable, which usually isn't the case in manga that i appreciate. I've already aired my beef with the lead, but the health teacher isn't much better, she's basically a very scheming and manipulative *cough* female dog *cough*. The teacher who always gets ditched at dates is just an airhead, and the nine dragons teacher, while he does have a huge coolness factor, gets messed around with too much by the student/health teacher etc

Finally, I really didn't like the deus ex machina that was introduced in the form of the miracle pill that I'm sure will make the ridiculously weak shiwoon able to practice martial arts in the future.

Read Veritas instead, it's a somewhat similar manhwa with a much better lead character who has guts, character and perseverance and is actually somewhat likeable

ugh, this could be a great manga, but i cant stand that chick flashing her boobs at people. what is her problem? cant she see no one is interesting in looking at her. she is pathetic... i also think the "master" of the main character is cool, most of the time. i hate when he starts acting like an idiot. it would be better if he was one of the cool and mysterious characters...
