Then half way through the second arc, it started getting too convoluted and stupid. It's lost its steam.

first this manga starts out stupid but okay. then the main character (who is a wimp) ends up with more than 1 girl that likes him even though he is an idiot. he also ends up super powerful compared to all of his cooler, less faggish, subordinates which is bs. i just don't like him. i'd give this a higher rating if the main character wasn't such a dumbass.

I just started reading HITMAN REBORN yesterday.

And it was fantastic.

Well like everyone said, the first 60-70 chapters were kinda boring but it became interesting..
I'm glad I didn't skip any chapters... TOTALLY AWESOME

this is without a doubt my favorite shounen title, considering it's the only one that i like enough to be all caught up smile

minus a couple of tenths of a point for the filleresque beginning volumes, but even they weren't too bad

The episodic portion isn't that bad

It's just that the meat of it is so awesome. I enjoyed the beginning if only to see Tsuna's abilities and sometime-confidence slowly develop. The character interactions are fun as well. If you can wait for the heavy action- which is worth the mundane beginnings even if you hadn't enjoyed it- then your patience will have heightened your overall enjoyment.

Read it... TO THE EXTREME!

For this manga, my recommendation is to read the beginning chapters up until all the characters are introduced (or skip around to the introduction chapters). After that, skip to when the action that starts around chapter 61. It seems that there’s a lot of people who don’t care for Tsuna’s wimpiness, but once the action starts, it feels like he really begins to come into his own. Better yet, the focus shifts away from the bullet-based power-ups from early on in the series and towards Tsuna’s personal growth and hard work. (It gets to the point that you rarely see the transition from normal Tsuna to Dying-Will Tsuna.)

Personally, I think there’s a certain something to this manga that gives it a slightly different feel from the typical shounen format. Also, unlike a lot of shounen, the author doesn’t generally seem to rely on those outrageously long Dragonball Z-esque fight scenes that last ten thousand chapters. All and all, a good manga with, possibly, an even better anime. (Your mileage may vary on that, but if the manga isn’t to your taste, I would still give the anime a try.)

i like the first few chapters where they were just doing funny stuffs more than the action parts but as i kept reading I soon realized that watching them in action isn't bad at all...i personally think they look cool when they fight

I heard that the mangaka is a female, i'm not too sure though...but if it's true then it would expalin why most of the characters are bishounen..one of the reasons why i love this manga is because of the hot guys..

It was enjoyable for a while, and I'll still be reading till the end. BUT, the author has either taken to drinking powerthirst, or has gradually succumbed to MVSMS (multiple volume shonen manga syndrome). Latest chapters... he has completely lost the plot. All the "revelations" come out like trash headlines from a tabloid. Like: "OMG the man is bathing in lava?!?!" or "5000 soldiers!!!!!" And then, "Shonen Magic Level-UP" time. ARGGHHHH.

Ok I've read all the reviews so far, and I'm up to the future arc and am still happily following it. So heres my piece of mind:

So many people say the first couple of chapters of Reborn suck, but i thought the first 2 volumes were great, nice character intros, funny situations, and my bro and i seem to be the few people who think tsuna in boxing shorts dying will mode is awesome, hes like the japanese characterisation of the mask, i think its hilarious and fun to see him do stuff. HOWEVER, volumes 3-7 were pretty much one shot manga torture. But I stayed through them because I was told a story happens later, which it does, and a cool one.

Ok, I will say there are flaws to the manga, it follows generic shonen situations, such as train, fight enemy one on one, lose, get saved by ally, etc etc. Also kyoko and haru, two of the female mains in this story annoy me to no end, as my friend puts them they're "kitchen bitches" and they're dull as an unsharpened HB to boot. But in saying that, the shounen forumlae is presented in a fresh way, using the mafia backdrop to add some difference. I personally have always liked gokudera and I love seeing the new and clever things he comes up with to win his fights. At the moment im hooked, really curious to see how the story goes.

Surprisingly good

Like the rest have said, this manga started out as an episodic comedy series before changing into an action one. I guess the author figured out that his series will get axed if he continued with the previous style?

Anyway, the first 7 volumes are quite painful to read because it's really more lame than funny (for me). The plot is non-existent with repetitive content and nonsensical 'humour' . I almost dropped it after seeing no improvements in volume 7 but I managed to persevere on and it was the right decision. The real plot only begins in volume 8 and whoa, I was hooked onto the action.

It might be boring but I'd still recommend others to read through the first 7 books to see how the characters came about, get to know a little of their backgrounds and the relationships between them. It would be helpful in understanding their behaviours later on.

p.s: rating is higher than others because i place more consideration on the later volumes. but i did deduct a fair amount for the crap i had to go through in the beginning.
