lacks GAR

I don't understand why people are comparing this to berserk. Berserk is far superior in terms of art to epic storyline to GAR hero you sympathize and care about.. To be fair, it's still early for Ubel Blatt and have much room for improvement. The whole 7 heroes and 4 betrayers is just ridiculous. How did they save the world themselves without the help of the others? If it was that easy, the others shouldn't of been scared and helped out. I'd like some bonus chapters to flesh out the past more. The awkward flashbacks atm are just an excuse to force emotion into the story and make Koinzell cry.

The action sequences are quite nice and easy to follow, but it lacks that 'oomph'. It just looks off when he defeats these huge powerful being with his dinky sword. He does look badass when he pulls out his Black Sword(sman, LOL). After 20 years, I'm sure Ubel is sex starved but he still looks like a little boy and it looks wrong, no matter how old he is on the inside. Why is there a useless elf, Puc - I mean - Peepi. I can't relate to any of the characters right now. None of them are all that developed. Ubel is cool sometimes but he's still one dimensional. He lives for one reason only, revenge. That's not good enough. Every hero needs a 'sheath' (read kenshin).

I've been harsh, but I do enjoy reading it. I just wish there was more complexity to plot and characters instead of Point A -> exact revenge -> Point B (repeat). I still recommend it, but you'd enjoy it more if you haven't been spoiled by better mangas.

I don't get it, why is everyone comparing everything to Berserk? Like Berserk is better, Berserk is original blah blah blah. I've read Berserk. It's great. But it isn't supposed to be the benchmark for all manga... Berserk is Berserk and that Ubel Blatt is Ubel Blatt. People should just stop criticizing manga if they themselves can't create something better than it.

Wtf is with all the 10s and all the weeaboos O_O'' trash trash trash. Also did some retard dare say this manga was "better than berserk" this manga shouldn't even be in the same paragraph as berserk because it would dirty the holiness of berserk ;) (not that there's anything holy about berserk >_>) I spit on this manga.. don't read it is my advice to any serious manga reader .. it'll make your head explode.. >_>;

Lukewarm dark fantasy

Yup, another dark fantasy tale centered around revenge... sadly, this one isn't up to par with Berserk, Claymore, Shin Angyo Onshi, Ares or Vinland Saga, but it does it's job. The plot is quite weak (nothing but a straightforward revenge tale) and the characters are one-dimensional and uninteresting (the villains lack enough background for you to care about them and the main heroes are likable but lack any sort of character development), but the action scenes are exciting enough despite the rather tame art, and there's plenty of nude eyecandy for you to look at. While the story is quite dark, it does have it's lighthearted moments every once in a while which clash with the overall tone. In fact, you could say the art itself clashes with the story tone since some of the character designs don't quite fit within the grim, medieval world that Ubel Blatt is set in. It's worth a try, just don't expect much beyond some dramatic fights, as the other aspects of it are decent at best or just barely above mediocre.

Shamandust is right. Ignore all of the 10s because those are from people who give perfect scores to anything that they like whether it is actually perfect as a 10 implies or not. This manga is like a really, REALLY downgraded Berserk. The plot is irritating as well. It should have been labeled a shounen manga because of all of the shounenistic themes but it has a lot of gore and rape so it I guess they couldn't do that.

To summarize, this is a a low grade berserk with a cheesy shounen style plot and your typical ugly evil villains and pretty good guys. Main character is born with ultimate capabilites meaning that from the beginning you know that he will come out victorious in all battles, unscathed and of he asserts his own moral thinking on all others and dictates who he wants to be alive and who not.

Predictable, contradictory, annoying and really nothing new or anything special.

Never thought that one day there'll be a fantasy manga better than Berserk. But Ubel Blatt has very good chances to become one!

A Berserker´s pale reflection

Übel Trite started of ok-ish despite stunts as indefensible rape-service early on and a barely connected volume 0. The series bothered to improve after a few volumes and then got weirdly boring/tame around volume 8 or so. It went on a hiatus soon thereafter, came back and now it is just grinding it´s gears... The art is pretty good but the world building is sub par and i finally had enough after 12 volumes. How many series is he writing at once btw? Does he want to one up LIM Dall-Young? I suggest to go for similar genre entries as Berserk (10/10), Vinland Saga(10/10) or Wolfsmund (9/10) instead which actually feel seinen and not like a shounen power trip.
Update: I opened up the most recent volume in early 2015 to be greeted with a straight out pornographic gang-bang that didn´t even try to be justified by context so the series even returned to the failings of the early volumes and may be a "remake" of Bastard!! in disguise instead of Miura´s timeless masterpiece. I ain't touching that!

Not as good as rumors say

This manga has all the right elements, but those elements, action, drama, friendship, betrayal, fear, courage, consistency. . .etc., are not done very well. It's just a case of a good story told badly. No matter how good the song, joke, story, whatever, it needs to be sung/told well. Otherwise it fails. This story teller failed.

I think I read up to about chapter 83, and I can honestly say that I remember almost nothing about this manga except that the MC has pointy ears and red swords that come out of his back.

Well said, Berserk is a god among insects in manga. This one is taking forever to go nowhere and the fighting scenes are too short and uneventful. Although my review is biased due to the blind rage that anyone would compare a generic shounen to the best manga ever written. I would say read it if you like a generic revenge-emo-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold theme, but otherwise put it on the bottom of the stack and go read Berserk.

Just dont cut it.

Characters = Blows... Koinzel? wtf I wish someone just killed him already...The rest of the crew aint that nothin to give a f*** about either -_-
Plot = Blow/Decent. some twist n turns that are good enough I guess
Art = Decent, clear n clean. Nothin spectacular but still good. Little too plain tho.

Wouldnt give this higher then a 5, havnt gone thru it all yet but got a feelin nothing will ever change in the story nor the characters. Anyways gona leave out my rating until some more volumes, Im pretty much forcing me thru this crap.

Anyways if your the kind that like somekind of wierd action with plain Characters/Plot/Fights... This is good enough for you I guess bigrazz

Conclusion with 1 word would be "Shallow"
