Used to be good

I picked this manga after the first season Anime as it looked very promising. I loved the original concept and unique art style. I'm into the manga 160+ and I notice this common pattern of making a previously a good character, relegated to the side. Not only that, every single one of the defeated enemies turn good and simply become bff with the MC. It's about people who have been turned into stone so I can hardly anticipate any realistic setting, but I do notice that situation and reasoning have become more ridiculous in recent chapters. I'll keep reading this but only erratically.

Great start, okay middle, ends kind of rush

I for one really loved the beginning of doctor stone. The characters was interesting.. The learning of science and how to make all this stuff that can somewhat reflect the real life is really something special.. Very rare to see that in a jump series. However after Senku leaves to find more help and defeats the first villian, the rest kind of goes to middle ground greatness of some many things going on, and seems rush and unexplained in some areas. Like Taiju Oki. it literally starts with him in the beginning making it Seem like he along with our protagonist is going to be important throughout the series. And across the the 1st 2 volumes they go through so many things together that you think he is gonna be like gonna be like a part of the cast. Once we get to volume 3 he and another character becomes either relevant or a background character. Along with another character who becomes his love interest. As someone else focused it seemed like a lot of the characters that got to stay was due to popularity polls instead such as Gen, and Ryusei. Other characters such as suika, Kohaku are also part of these characters that continue to stay with the Protagonist even though his best friends were with him since the beginning and were the ones that they were like his family and improtant to the story. I even wrote and sent illustrations to both the artist and the author about the 3 characters in the beginning of the series and it seems like after I sent them that they started getting more panel time and a bit more importance near the end of the story which seems to prove my point. Even after that, more fun and crazy characters are introduced mostly for a second before having to get reduced to nothing more.
Now let's get on to explaining things. Great when it comes to making a lot of experiments within the story when it comes to science a lot of it is very interesting. But as far as the main thing or importance in the story such the story such as doctor stone, gets the strangest ways of explaining things and how they became stone in the first place. Remember when our protagonist says there That there were limits on bringing people back from stone. And the next arc that the author seems to have forgotten that and just made it all possible again. Also there's some things left on explain of why only some animals became stoned what other animals did not. I wont go to much into it but when you read the reasons it you will see what i mean.
Another Example is the protagonist family. Though I understand that in Japan the parents or the protagonist birth parents are always gone and missing because they want our protagonist to grow it's still very strange to me that the protagonist parents wasn't even revealed.. And the reason behind and behind the protagonist's adopted parents makes it seem like he really was he real parents. But thats a small reason.

The artwork is great. Boichi san is amazing. I feel that even with the ending there's so many things left that just didn't make sense. The ending is still good if you just go with it fit but other than that though it just leaves a lot more holes and I don't know if it's because of the higher ups from jump on why he had to rush it like that as many other stories had to come to any during that same time frame as this. I can only hope that the anime will do better and maybe expand some of the things that the artist Or the author couldn't do in the manga.

Gallery of nobodies

There is a lack of character focus, the main character is more like a barely human exposition dispensing plot mover and once in a while some newly introduced characters will orbit him until that arc is finished. It feels like this series was editorially mandated based on character popularity polls. Remember when it started out as two best friends? Taiju-who? Remember when a new girl that seemed to be a love interest was introduced? Remember the self-taught scientist? Their arc is over as soon as that particular story ends and then they get relegated to the background. These characters pop in and out frequently and there's barely any reason to get attached to them, they don't stay in the story's focus for long and it's hard to really enjoy reading this when it feels like there's no real vision of a new stone age world and every character and action exits for plot conveniences. It has fun moments and is a light read and the science parts are interesting, so I would still recommend it.

An incredible story with amazing characters, the way they apply science in this wonderful work and the resolution in the plot arcs is beautiful, Inagaki-Sensei and Boichi-Sensei gave us a fabulous manga, one of the best manga of the new generation along with CSM, Spy X Family, among others.
A different shonen manga, I loved it from beginning to end.

I would write more about DrStone but I would never finish.

I love you DrStone

It used to be good

I used to be a huuuge fan, I remember when they had an small project and how good it felt when they finally were able to complete the roadmap to get where they wanted to, but for a really long time the manga looks like is doing a speedrun, finding materials is not hard anymore, apparently they all have unlimited materials once they find them for the first time, they went from doing a boat during a year to building complex engines in less than that, but what I dislike the most is just how every time they need to do that they currently cant, instead of finding a work around, they just find an expert on that field that is so unbelievably good that it takes away any chance of failure, I can see my score going down with that or maybe im just dropping the series all togheter, because seeing shit being created out of nowhere after a small montage chapter after chapter gets boring reeeeeaally quickly

i was a huge fan of Boichi Sun-Ken Rock! and I was hoping that his Ecchi style of manga would go well in the shounen style of manga! But for my sadness I find it wanting more... I hate when artist censor themselves...

I don't know what to think of this series. On one hand it's interesting to learn how different compounds are the basis of what we all know, love and use on a daily basis, but on the other hand...it's so damn dry. It's a visual scientific textbook with (sometimes cringy) comedic elements trying too hard to make it sound less dry (and it rarely succeeds). Reminds me of Steins;Gate in that fashion.

If you're familiar with the latter I don't recommend.

Starts nice but gets disappointing...

Edit2: the ending is ok, if they'd skipped the sea voyage and gone straight to the why man I would've given it a 6 or 5 .

Edit1 : terrible a bad case of not contrasting sources and the author believing weird internet stuff and mixing it all the create a mainstream/comercial abomination (It isn't that difficult getting a consultant of the different topics they touch).

I really liked the beginning and could overlook some Asian misconceptions (Edison /Amadeus vs Salieri / creation and acceptance of money... abundant over simplifications...) The next biggest flaw is how the author only remembers the main cast are human instead of robots once in a while. What I couldn't stand was how they crossed the ocean (
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the enemy is potentially in South America and
the currents can change to worse in 1000+ years) instead of going to Africa /Asia /Europe or any random gold/ jewellery deposit. If it was for the food, India would be the easy choice...I ended up hating how the characters were so shallow and seeing the author trying to be smart.

The biggest contradiction apart from the undeveloped village and
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how almost none of the humans ,not even statues die
,is that Japanese is only spoken in Japan ,so they should've stayed at least a year stabilising the village (a village of about 50 people can't revive civilisation ), learning languages or done a minimal excuse about why the hadn't done that.

I thought that some things would get better when Dr. Xeno was introduced as another scientist with more realistic approaches. But in the end he was easily subdued and they revived a regiment of USA military and they just force all the ugly stuff on him to make Senku shine brighter. Really don't know why Tsukasa was totally fine with this.

I completely dislike the conception of necessary evils Manga forces upon the readers (Mafia ,pirates, anyone other than the --mc taking the blame for all the bad stuff...) I just see it as the MC imposing his values in a hypocritical way whist washing his hands when anything inmoral appears.

Dr. Stone has just reached over 100 chapters (103 realeased as of now) and it looks like it is good to go for a while longer. I appreciate that the goal is to have this manga appeal to all ages and the anime will only boost it's popularity.

My favourite part was definitely chapters 50-70 because the planning, pacing and story devlopment were at it's best. It highlighted the manga's strengths which I believe are in the great leadership qualities of the main character, Senku and the creativity of both the writer and the artist. The manga was able to show step by step processes with explanations on how the task at hand would be achieved and it was both exciting and educational for me.

The main character is unique and wonderful, to be honest he is very well depicted in both his design and in the way he is written within the manga itself. The rest of the cast is a mixture of interesting and lovely. The writer tends to focus on the light hearted relationships in this story and it allows readers to connect to the "normal" characters in this story. Although it really is overwhelmingly light hearted at this stage, but the bonds between the characters do gradually grow stronger.

The story started off with a deep passion for science to restore modern civilization but to be honest the manga isn't really too scientific. That isn't to say it does not use science at all but normally you will witness a new item being crafted or things being constructed and then they refer to science as being the source of their achievement.

Having said that, the underlying themes do tend to switch from crafting, gathering, community, action to name a few. But I really could not tell you what the main ones are or what they should be. At times, I believe the writer and artist aren't on the same wavelength and certain parts or even whole chapters do not get depicted as well as they could have done.

All in all Dr. Stone definitely is off to a good start and you will be doing yourself a favour in reading it to see if you like it.

Quite good

An interest take on a cliched setting, can't comment on the accuracy of the science but it's still interesting to watch (thou not very believable), something like a comprehensive japanese Mac Gyver, still it's a leap of faith I can accept. The MC is interesting as are some of the side chars thou I find the hype or way they try to make everything look cool or epic slightly annoying. Story is interesting even if it takes a rather strange turn soon enough and also I had some great laughs at times.
The main flaw in this one is the naivety of the author. The not kill surfaces again and again it's not done well and is too extreme for a very rational person like the MC to not take the kill one save 7 billion choice is dumb, alternatively, lie, one lie you save humanity... not an option either, just naive. Likewise the idea of reviving 7 billion people in a world that can't sustain it is extremely stupid, all subsequent inanition and struggle of resources deaths will be a result of their actions, and it will be in the millions, again, can't kill 1 but is ok with millions dying as a result of his choices? And again, the villain depetrifies random school kids and they go off to kill people? they are modern school kids or young people they just don't have that mentality, you can justify a few but not most of them. Another big one is:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how a village that has been there for 3700 years has only 40 people, no technology and has not expanded in all that time... modern humans created that village, top scientist astronauts and there is even a teacher but al knowledge is lost but 100 ridiculous stories??? that's just plain stupid. Humanity in 3700 years went from iron working to this era right now but in the manga with way bigger headstart it instead regressed? doesn't make sense.
Last or first maybe, a school kid, no matter how strong can't kill a lion, he just can't, let's be very forgiving and go with it, ok, but I can't go with him killing 1 lion and 4 lionesses with his bare hands and pretty much in 1 sec on reflex, that's an brutish example of what I mean by having things look epic, just a lion would have been overkill already, what's the need.
In any case, if you can tolerate that naivety it's an entertaining teenage oriented survival style story.
