Yeongdo is a poor woodcutter who lives alone, quietly longing for a family of his own. And deep in the mountain pond lives an imoogi—a serpent spirit who can become a dragon only by killing its destined mate. Hoping to earn enough wealth for marriage, Yeongdo throws his axe into the mountain pond, believing the rumor that the mountain spirit will return it as a golden one. But instead of a benevolent deity, what rises from the water is an imoogi—already furious after countless humans kept throwing axes into its pond. The imoogi approaches intending to kill the human before it, but something about Yeongdo’s scent draws it in… and that pull soon twists into a dangerous obsession.
