Mademoiselle Butterfly

Description

Butterfly is a young geisha in training. She loves and admires her childhood friend, Chinatsu-san. He’s a tattoo artist, and he paints butterflies on her arms and is kind to her. One day she visits Chinatsu and finds a naked woman there. Butterfly is devastated at the thought of her friend with another girl all along. Soon after, a rich foreigner offers to buy Butterfly and take her to live luxuriously in a faraway land with him. She’ll miss life at home, but maybe it will help her forget Chinatsu. But does she really want to? (From Shoujo Manga Maniac)

Historical theme especially war time is always the best theme for a romance story.

It doesnt break any new ground but there are only 2 vol so it's fine.
Art is great, the tattoo was drew really nice, love it ^^

such a great story! The length was perfect for it. Chinatsu and Butterfly's relationship is so cute and lovey dovey XD The story was really cute and touching. Some parts were a bit cliche... but it was really good! The art is really nice and clean. I read it twice because I liked it too much XD

What a cuuuute story. It's very touching, too. :]

When I was approaching the last few pages, I was crying and thinking, "Well. This sucks. I should have known this was going to be the ending."

AND THEN IT TURNED OUT PERFECTLY.

YAY!

art is beautiful and storyline is pretty decent so far....above all, it's CUTE!!! this manga is sooo cuteee so far! cute in a good way, not the cheezy lame-ish way of normal shoujo....

Heartwarming

The manga starts off very cliche but as you read on past the early chapters, you'll realize this series is a very heartwarming story without all the normal shoujo bs.

There were some instances of drama but it doesn't drag on much. I know some people like drama that drags on for a long time because they think it's "realistic" but c'mon, who likes drama that lasts 5+ chapters? In this series, the drama is presented lightly as a plot device for both of them to mature their feelings. Both main characters become very likeable because they both make logical and sensible decisions. Nothing ridiculous like other shoujos.

I won't spoil the ending. Although the ending was predictable and forced, it was a satisfying. Like I said in the beginning of the review, this is a heartwarming story and it stays heartwarming that leaves you smiling.

There are two things that I do regret about this series. First, is that it was only two volumes. I feel that it should have been 3 or 4 volumes to flesh our their relationship more. Second, the mangaka should have flesh more of the side characters, especially the girls from the geisha house. The other girls were mentioned here and there but they were forgettable because nothing much was talked about them. Because of this, I feel that the series got axed but if it was, it was still very satisfying.

Anyways, it was a good read for a shoujo manga.

Have to admit I REALLY wasn't fond of this manga when I began to read but somehow I managed to finish and I gotta say it's not too bad itself. For some reasons it also made me cry, and that was kinda surprising because I didn't expect it to move me that way...

All in all, the series's not something really new and exciting to me but I wouldn't say I regret reading it.

Just finished this story and it's wonderful! The bonus stories at the end are also very funny. Only thing is, I feel sad for Butterfly thinking that her husband died and also having the scars on her back.

Simple but heart warming story

Love the way the story is tell, will the details of the time line, and how the love bettewn the characters develops in a steady way without been slow but sometines a bit fast (i prefer fast).

Love all the kimonos and the tattos details, great custome drawing.

A short but complete story, one of the few mangas that dares to tell the life stile of japan during the WW2 era.

Didnt put a 10 becauso some things coulb be tell in a better way and coudl length the story a little, and its predictable ending.

Great relax manga to read with a thender loving story

Akane Ogura is a friend of Bisco Hatori, creator of popular manga and anime Ouran High School Host Club. When I heard that, I just went ahead to read one of Ogura-sensei's mangas. 8D Thus I read this one.
