Despite being a side story, actually these short stories are pretty interesting, showing how genetic was and how some memorable characters were and are now in the main series, Freezing.
Also this focus on how characters developed a desire or reason of joining Genetics, as many of them came by special reasons.
Some of these side stories are beautifully written, have better stories and provide some interesting background to the character in the main. They're short but succinct.
The original had too much girl fights going on imo. It was rather distracting to the plot really. In these side stories the author tones that kind of thing down a few notches and focuses more on character development, which I thought was rather nicely done.
As for some low ratings? There's only 19. Who cares. A troll with no life and 30 mins of spare time can easily make fake accounts. It's more important to judge for yourself. I would recommend fans of the original series to chk this out also.
To be honest, I really don't understand why so many people rate it as a 1, without giving a reason. To me, it's been a good story so far, telling of the origins of Aoi Kazuha, why she was one of the strongest, how she lost her life, how genetics was operating before, etc. The drawings are great. The story is probably not on par with the main series, but it's not failing at all. It's just right. I'd seriously recommend it to you. You need to have read the main Freezing manga (at least the first couple chapters), to be able to understand some terms and what is going on.
I hope the people that are rating it as a 1, aren't rating it out of hate for the author or for the whole Freezing series.
