The basic story: a high-school student (Nanase Hokuto) living away from his parents (who are in Australia) shares an apartment house with three older girls. His exposure to their whimsical and teasing nature leaves him pretty much despising females. However, the high-school idol (Taniyama Maina) ends up having a crush on him. Her best friend is Nakajima Atsumi, your typical sukeban. Hokuto's best friend, Moriyama Syuuichirou, is the young-punk biker. For a manga from the 80's I expected something banal and outdated, but to my surprise this was remarkably funny and relevant even in contemporary times. The art is quite nice, the characters fit well into their roles and the timing of the jokes is excellent.
As I started out, I expected the entire series to be about the girl chasing the reluctant boy she likes , who relents at the very end, but to my delight this was not the case. The gag humour, expressions and sfx are very well illustrated and the series length of 21 chapters just about right, although this leaves a few side characters with much less development. All in all, a very good read. This manga deserves to be more popular than it apparently is.
