Summary:
This is set in a universe where beastmen are the dominant species and humans are less common such that they are kept as "pets." As I'm sure you can probably guess, most of these pets are used/abused as sex slaves. The uke was raised in captivity and despises beastmen. One day, the seme helps him escape his owner and takes him to an island where beastmen and humans coexist. The uke doesn't trust/like the seme at first, but as they spend time together, they both start to fall in love. The story mostly focuses on their domestic activities as a way for them to bond, such as cooking and interacting with the island community. There is a small plot involving drug addiction and the events at the beginning of the book, involving the uke's owner, come full circle near the end of the story.
I really enjoyed how the characters interact with their community. So many BL couples tend to live in self-contained bubbles; it's nice to see a couple get out lol The art is gorgeous and the character designs are really nice. The paneling/composition is really well done. There's a few 1.5/2-page spreads and they look really cool in print.
My only real critique are that there were a few circumstances that felt a bit stretched for plot-convenience but it's a fantasy world with beast people so I can forgive these things. I also was expecting kinky mer-sex but they never do it when the seme is in full fish form lol
