I'm normally a fan of slice-of-life but there's just not much here. The most interesting parts of this series are the setting and romance and the author refuses to focus on either of those.
For the setting, it is set in what seems to be an alternate Earth as the general events and some names align with real history. That being said the author gives as little information regarding as possible. Having finished the series, there still isn't a name given to the country or a year for the date! They also spend way too much time in pseudo-germany which has nothing special about it, forgoing what initially drew me to the series, the frontier life.
The romance is also poor. Despite being the main billing of the series and opening on a proposal... It kinda just bursts forward at times with no real lead up. It isn't even made clear that they are mutually kissing let alone having sex before Sieglinde is revealed to be pregnant! After the pregnancy the romance is even less of a focus, outside of buying flowers for her once I can't think of a single moment focused on their relationship.
The drama, while rare, is also terribly done. It's forced and just doesn't make sense or have any real resolution. For instance, there is a scene where a curmudgeonly old man who hates outsiders has a disagreement with Ritzhardt about his granddaughter romancing a foreigner. He then threatens to kill him multiple times and winds up shooting him! Where does this lead? The old man is mentioned to still be in town not seeing her anymore, and that's it. No further mention at all. He literally shoots the main character and gets off scot-free, it's insane. It also doesn't really make sense why he hates outsiders as it's mentioned that their whole tribe was saved by an outsider's medicine from a disease that would've otherwise wiped them out a single generation ago, and they are also literally refugees in pseudo-lapland, being given land and freedom by those same hated outsiders.
What we're left with is people just living their life slowly with barely any interesting character interactions. Do you like scenes of skinning animals and eating food? Maybe this manga is for you, because that's all it consistently does.
