Description
Takumi's wife dies at the age of 25, leaving behind their son, Yuji, and a very special picture book. It tells the story of those who die--remembered by the loved ones left behind--going to a planet called Archive, and return to visit when the rainy season comes. Suddenly, the picture book seems to come true, when Mio shows up... without a memory.

Hate translation

Yukimas is the word and how you say it, but english translators insist in using their own translation and try to universalize for everyone. In spanish, we read every word. I also read that "u". It is a stupid way to translate Japanese.

Horrible Job by Viz Staff, Misleading sales pitch

Agreeing with MightyMaeve here. The staff from Viz did a terrible job in this volume. The letterer messed up placing the text in the right bubble an abhorrent number of times; one line was even accidentally repeated and I could tell some sentences were placed in the wrong bubble! The translations could pass for average, but the folly of the text misplacement further emphasized the stiffness of it all. It lacked the colloquial elegance seen in so many other professional translations from Viz.

Viz needs to make a second edition because I'm sure if everything was looked over and revised, I and a lot of other people could have enjoyed the story a lot more.

In the paragraph on the back, Viz advertises the story's popularity overseas, so it sounds very appealing to read, but the actual product is another subject entirely. I'm sure the story is great, but reading Viz's published version should not count as a sufficient way to read it.

Manga Interpretation Lacks Impact

Originally, this was written as a novel, but the translation to manga was unbelievably boring! The action just didn't captivate me, and the story was uncompelling. I think the art was part of the problem: it seemed so scattery and hard to follow. A lot of the line work was similar--not a lot of variety--so it fell sort of flat on the page.

I might try another one of this writer's stories, but with another artist, and I'm in no rush. Ichikawa Takuji has another story entitled, "Heavenly Forest" that has been made into a movie and a manga with the artist Yoshino Aki. I'll try that one when it's released (currently on Shoujo Manga Maniac's list of up-coming projects).

Worth a Read...

I thought there would be more mystery and intrigue in this story than there ended up being... but it was still a sweet and cute story. And the resolution of the story was satisfying. If you're reading this looking for a good paranormal mystery to solve, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a sweet paranormal romance, this should be right up your alley.
