Holy smokes. This series is a hidden gem!
For anyone in their late 20s and beyond, who want to relive their past, feel nostalgia, read about processing and dealing with change, going through “life” — this is for you. It’s almost like a coming-of-age series, but it’s not. The authors put a lot of work into the meaning behind everything that happens, and you get to read that in the Afterword. It’ll all make sense then.
At first I didn’t quite like this series or understand it, because I was never really into slice of life, but I stayed for the cats. It can feel a bit ridiculous and hard to grasp at times, but just bear with it until ch 12 and beyond. By episode 20 I was hooked and crying every chapter. (Yes… be prepared for tissues)
Next, let me rave about the art……….. The ART!!! You don’t get quality stuff like this anywhere nowadays. I’m so used to reading recycled digital graphic content these days that seeing artwork from this series, hand drawn in each panel with such vivid colours and scenery, was so refreshing and heartening. Ugh. I loved and appreciated it so much.
I didn’t expect to like or enjoy this series so much, because the beginning didn’t start off well for me. But by 1/3 or 1/2 of the way in until the end, it grew on me. Hope it will do the same to you too!
