Description

Millions of years have passed since the times of legends, when the worlds of man and gods were still the same. In these times it was the desires of man that moved the world. It is the era of the 500 year war: The warring states period. Kingdom is the story of a young boy named Shin who grew into a great general and all the trials and bloodshed that lead him there.

Earned a Guinness World Record in 2012 for Manga written by the most people. The record was due to its "Social Kingdom" campaign in which fans and other artists were given the task of redrawing the entire 26th volume.

Note: Won the grand prize for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2013 and the first annual Tsutaya Comic Awards' All-Time Best Section in 2017.

Fast releases(0-3 chapters per day). That is the biggest reason I like this manga. It is not anything new from what I have read but it is good enough and is enjoyable to read. But yeah, biggest reason is I don't have to wait a week(or sometimes 6 months) just to read the next chapter.

Great series ... only if you can get past the main character

Kingdom is the whole package when it comes to action. It covers all bases with more exaggerated fictional one on one battles to strategical battles to political wars. There are timely breaks between each war to break the monotony of endless fights, and interesting side characters to keep dialogue lively.

But my major issue with this series is that battles are large scale and highly dependent on numbers - not brawn. It drives me crazy that the main character is extraordinarily dumb, which simply does not work when his goal is to be a general in charge of thousands of lives. He sacrifices many of his subordinates' lives by being the idiot that he is but doesn't learn from it. He hasn't shown any remorse or conflicting thoughts about letting so many people die up to this point, and he hasn't developed intellectually to better lead an army. Instead, he continues to put a large emphasis on 'war achievements' and individual fighting strength.

The MC's very character contradicts his end goal, and it makes no sense that he's getting closer to becoming a general.

Seinen manga with cliche Shounen main character.

This is amazing manga but i know the mangaka is trying to make the main character a general , after reading this manga , i say he doesn't have the characteristics of being a general , he is a just a soldier, nothing more , that's where he must be , trusting him of thousands of people's lives in the hands of this naive kid is making me to drop this manga but what i read is for the political and the war and other characters , i just try my best to ignore him at all .

A Complete Imbecile Cannot Become a Great General

I see a lot of people call the the MC an idiot. He's not. He is an imbecile, a mentally retarded sack of adrenaline fueled stupidity. A person that stupid could never become a great general. At best he would be a puppet for a real strategist who lacked the physical stature to fill the role.

While I like the way battles are laid out and the overall thought that seems to be given to the background of the story, the MC is at best a shounen cliche. If he was just uneducated but possessing native intellect an cunning, this could have been included among the greatest manga ever written.

For the first few volumes this manga maybe good. But going further, it becomes similar to your average fighting shounen manga. Your main character will start to act like a teenager with too much time in his hand. They believe their companions undefeatable and themselves immortal. They challenge impossible hurdle and get out of it alive. Some will be demigod manifested, killing people like a death machine virtually unscathed. Their troops, is the Gary Stu, embodying their indomitable commanders. Bleed and dying left-and-right they are, but victorious they will always.

Furthermore, older characters slowly suffer mental regression as they started to react like teenagers. They throws 'witty' comments, initiates soapy drama, and being surprised overused plot device numerous times. After a while, you'll realize that this manga is straight-man comedy/highschool romance repackaged.

Initially, I have a great expectation in this title. With so many death involved, characters become deeper emotionally, and some simply don't care. The generals depicted as paragon of military might, fully grasp his own army dynamic if not the whole battle. Losing general, the scattered army act clumsily, something that I actually like. Early volumes is an enjoyable ride, save some shortcoming. However, since vulgar arrogance that is Kankoku Pass battle, everything is thrown out of the windows. Characters now become clowns. Story simply must go on, there's no need to care for its integrity. Employed tactic gradually become simplistic. Aspects of war, abandoned.

The art also turned horrible. Characters' head is drawn like an egg. Horse butt like a beach ball with a patch of long hair. It's basic shape with texture pasted on it! Clash is always cavalrymen already swinging their glaives at colapsing infantry line. No longer to be found epic moment of ensuing chaos. Not exist from the very begining the rigorous discipline and cunning of statesmen. What an epic fail!

Main Character is an Idiot

Don't know why it recieves such high praise, but as far as I have read (till CH100) it's average. The lead is irritating and is a total idiot. He has zero IQ and is the dumbest character I have seen. I enjoy gore & historical settings, but I can't stand idiot main character.

It's scary how many people believe that this is a masterpiece. At best, this is garbage with a quick turn-over rate.

Fascinating / Realistic Characters
The main character is an idiot who never realized two of his companions were girls for 100+ chapters.

Strategic Battles
LOL. What? Half of the generals rely on their instincts to get themselves and their armies through each battle. The other half, AKA the strategists, usually and pathetically die to the first group. Now guess which half the main character belongs to and how each of his battles unfold.

It's a Love / Hate Relationship

This series is, without a doubt, horrible, yet it's translated constantly which kind of makes up for it. It's a '3 more chapters just got released and I've already read 251 of them so I might as well read 3 more' kind of thing. So... don't pick this up because you'll be mildy disappointed throughout 254 chapters of blah.

For those looking for the finer points, there are none so stop looking. The characters suck, the situations are horrible, and overall Kingdom is just bad.
