Its alright I guess

But IMO, its a tad bit overrated. MC at first appears to be a "loner" "aloof" and "cold" but after a few chapters, he acts like a typical "idiot/pushover" MC in front of the girls like in other "shounen romance" manga.

Well its just my opinion.

The Man. The Myth. The Legend.

Hachiman is one of the great protagonists of our time. The way he is able to pierce the veil and call things as they are is admirable, as are his constant noble sacrifices to save those that mock and belittle him, and his treatise on nice girls is something that should change lives.

Why, in the name of all Gods, publish chapter #60 when last chapter published is #27??

I don't want to read it, since will spoiler too much or OTOH, I won't understand anything of situation.
Hot Chocs guys ( and gals, of course) are working splendidly, but this is annoying...

Regards and thanks again to Hot Chocs for their hard work and awesome results!

Unusual MC

The MC of this manga is so unusual. His lack of friends and failure in his past with attempts to socialize with girls result in a pessimistic approach to life. He begins to look at most things in life with disdain and this combined with his excellent language skills make his monologues so amusing.
I love the unconventional ways he comes up with to solve problems and his willingness to play the role of the bad guy to get the job done.
The rest of the cast is full of colorful characters including the ditzy cute sister komachi, petite androgynous Saika, super otaku Zaimaru and BL enthusiast Ebina.
The one character I find disappointing is Yukino. After all her preaching she seems to take a back seat at points in the story where she should be getting involved the most. e.g. when Minami took the position of chair person of the culture festival but shoved of all the work to Yukino and still tried to get all the accolades and attention.
Her character's actions become so dull after the initial chapters.

This series, this awesome series, is indescribable. It's not classic shounen, doesn't have action, some fan service which I don't mind. It's my thing because the protag focuses on how he hates society (roughly), he hates the preset about youth and how it 'should' be enjoyed, by having unexpected events or going out with friends all that nonsense. Next he's kind of egotistical as it states, he thinks that his way is the right way and that what everyone believes true youth to be a lie. Funny enough if his earlier circumstances were different I think he would've been a completely different person, but its great that he ended up the way he is.

Next is my all time favorite character: Yukino Yukinoshita (and a nice long but easy name to remember). She's both the same and the opposite to Hikigaya, the protag. They're both more or less unsocial, both think that there's something wrong with society or whatever, except where Hikigaya thinks that he himself (and maybe others as well) should stay the same instead of running away and trying to change, Yukino thinks that that itself is a form of running away and that if your character is wrong you should strive to change it. That's kind of the point of her club, she helps people change instead of doing something for them, basically the whole teach a man to fish jibe. That's what I mean by identical and opposite of Hikigaya, though I prefer Hikigaya's mindset I love Yukino's everything else more <3.

About and For Unusual People

This review is based on the anime. I don't see enough of the manga translated yet to base an opinion on.

The two most important of the three characters in this manga are highschoolers who are highly unusual---an outcast and a semi-outcast who are both unusually observant and smart. Such people suffer emotionally like anyone else when they're shunned, but they tend not to take their lowly status passively. They carefully observe the group dynamics that have led to their social isolation, think carefully about them, and form conclusions about disfunctional social structures in general. Their theorizing can lead them astray and they can end up misundestanding a lot, like the main guy character in this show has done. They main girl character, on the other hand, has used her brains to make perfect grades but mostly withdrawn from socializing, even though she's rich and beautiful; so she's a bit more in touch with everyday behavior.

When these two meet, abetted by a more normal, cheerful girl, there is a lot of conversation. Because the main two are very smart and thoughtful, they're talk is witty and interesting. It's especially interesting because it is through their talk -- much of it unusually analytical for a manga -- that they begin to move toward wanting to engage the school world again. They are starting to take the first steps on the road to growing up. Maybe later they might even grow close as boy and girl.

The result is a manga that can look like nothing to people who 1. have had no or very limited experience being outcasts; or 2. aren't smart or patient enough to follow the UNSAID content of these characters' interactions. To my great surprise, lots and lots of viewers of the anime version of this story mentioned how they'd been outcasts in high school, and commented on how much they liked the characters' deep conversations.

So ladies and gentlemen there is definitely an audience for this unusual story. Those of you who find what I've described familiar or interesting should check it out.

Good School Themed Compared to others

The novel is great, the MC at first glance at the manga you'd think he's a Welcome to the N.H.K.' Sato character, but he's not, he's more mature & competent tho. Deep down he's sensitive and warm. He's too detached tho, as his experiences made him lacking of self empathy, and may end up dead in the future (imo).

Overall the stories gives off warm, fuzzy, bitter-sweet moments in school, no over the top craziness but still interesting and good character developments.

Other commenter lacks knowledge and just yaps mindlessly, comparing it to similar genre. It's not.

* edit: oh, and those who find this title and its MC as bad, couldn't relate because they can be classified as normal fags- quoting our MCs: they should just kill themselves.

Bland McBlandster is bored with his ordinary school life and hates sheeple because he has no friends. He joins a club with the school's most beautiful and smartest girl. Together they pretend to learn about the value of friendship while actually just doing a lot of fan pandering.

Wow, this resonates with me alot! I can see myself in the main char alot more than the heroes of most manga I aspire to be. I suppose if you've been a loner all your life, you can really understand this guy! He doesn't kill or beat anyone up, or have super powers, but wow it's refreshing to see a main character that isn't so gung-ho. He's not your typical emo dude that just cries all the time, he's actually very calm, and thinks about the bigger picture of life.

novel reader and I just wanted to give people heads up that this isn't really comedy romance novel. Just a very self-loathing, somewhat depressing, masochistic type of novel. This isn't going to turn sweet (maybe a few scenes), it'll just turn more bitter and stay that way

If you're not good with this kind of stuff, I wouldn't continue.
