From Kodansha:
The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization, rescues a pregnant chimpanzee from an animal testing lab only for it to give birth to a half-human, half-chimpanzee “humanzee” named Charlie! It's as philosophical as a shounen would get (it's a seinen though … so I actually expected more). And it isn't about an unheard topic either. There are movies with more outrageous premises (Ted 2) treating what rights would a human experiment, clones ,alien or sentient teddy-bear would have.
The vegan terrorist group was a bit of an overkill, without them I could probably take the manga more seriously. It's diverging into a shitshow of some USA political stuff, while most of the development up to now is rather violent.
Not having mentioned the human rights declaration in the first 10+ chapters is also quite underwhelming, given the topic it tries to bring up. It feels completely alien, just like when mangas treat Christianity and so on. I mean, I understand oriental philosophy is a bit different, but "human rights" deserve better than this even if it's related to the topic of what being human is.
All in all, I'll keep an eye on the series and hope it stays short and gets better. Fleshing out Charlie would also benefit the series he's too apathetic.
