Became frustrating, trite, and excruciatingly common.
Initially, their introversion and awkwardness subverted a lot of cliches in a way that was funny and caught me off guard. By chapter 70 or so though, we are leaning on the same tired tropes, the leads are debilitated by the same exaggerated cognitive distortions, and the side characters no longer have any interesting depth.
As usual, there is an unfathomably deranged female antagonist that manhwas for some reason LOVE to invent (as if 14-16 year old girls are all these criminal masterminds stalking and manipulating with abandon and no adult ever notices or intervenes). There is an ever-expanding squad of introverts attempting to provide comedic relief but other than the core few, they phase in and out without my even remembering their names or how they're involved (what happened to the guy who was initially charged with bringing Suji to school? Is all that conflict about Suji going to be resolved with one walk to school and now he's just another Gyeol-stand-in?)
Jayu's and Jaehyeok's inability to say what they mean or understand what is being said to them seems to pop in and out of existence to suit the author (which, fair, everyone can have their moments of bravery) but the extent to which convenient anxious mutism builds their misunderstandings and convenient bold attempts to communicate ALSO builds their misunderstandings verges on the brink of absurd.
Despite the above, I do love the art. The initial cast of characters (if the author could just stop introducing more for the sake of shallow conflict on top of shallow conflict) are delightful, unexpected, and hilarious. Their antics trying to navigate friendships that are so new to them is refreshing to see in a genre that so heavily leans on "I'll make you popular~" tropes that conflate beauty/braggadocio with confidence or popularity.
If the author could have just focused on the completely sufficient trials and tribulations of a smaller cast of characters learning how to be friends and trust each other and maybe develop deeper feelings without all the extraneous and unrealistic drama, this could have been a truly spectacular piece. As it is, it's a fun and inventive start to a fairly familiar story.
