To sum this one up, despite a few pages of emotional content and a handful of crying scenes, it's basically a constant transition from one sex scene to another, disguised ambitiously as something more than what it achieves. Hot and sexy if you're wanting to read a sexy story, but if you're the type to read more for sentimentality or a wider range of emotions, this isn't the best choice.
The concepts are solid and interesting with the initial setup for the couples: but a lot of the love confessions seem rushed, and the couples (apart from the main couple and another I won't spoil here) seem hastily put together, as if lust suddenly makes them fall in love out of relatively nowhere. And this story has a persistent case of Overly Whiney/Crying Uke, making heavy use of seme/uke stereotypes for the boys, except for the main couple.
I really wish the entire volume had been about them, without the younger boy. I found his personality to be likable, but I didn't understand why he was in their story. His dynamic with either of them was never as complex or intriguing as the one they had with each other, and I wanted to know more before the WHOA COMPLEX DRAMA suddenly happened and changed the story so drastically.
All in all, this isn't a bad work. As I said, if you appreciate a lot of smut, this is definitely a good series to check out. This story does a lot of telling through its sexual scenes, and we don't have much time to just sit and be with the characters; they open their hearts through short insight snippets, and hop right back to the action.
But if you're more intrigued by realism and personal dynamics like myself, I'd pass on this one. Apart from the main couple, the story does not feel complete enough to justify its whirlwind of emotions the characters go through.
Note: I have yet to read the sequel. I've heard it expands quite a bit on the main couple, so hopefully it allows us to slow things down and get to know them better.
