Description
Strange things are happening all over town, and Amano Kouichi's having nightmares again. Several clans are spurred into action as the past gradually resurfaces, while Kouchi and his obsessively devoted younger brother Jun keep having inexplicable encounters that those around them seem to know more about than they're letting on.

What, exactly, is being set into motion, and how do the Amano brothers fit into the picture?

Just to clarify about the weird incest reviews, it's been over 27 volumes and THERE HAS BEEN NO INCEST!!!

This is one of my favorite mangas, which is no surprise as it's by my favorite mangaka, Rieko Yoshihara (same author of Ai no Kusabi). The story, art, characters, and world-building are so well done. If you're interested in modern world stories that have divine gods, warriors, spirits, supernatural powers, monsters, destiny, reincarnations, parallel dimensions, etc., and yaoi (definitely goes beyond shounen ai), then I definitely recommend this.

Trigger warning: Please note that this does contain r*pe. And not the glorified type. Kouichi goes through a traumatic experience that doesn't quite leave him even if he does recover and is able to move on from it. It also contains on-screen deaths, along with a bit of gore (not too much, but there are bloody scenes, though nothing extremely graphic).

Although the main couple is established fairly early in the story, this does contain some harem-y aspects centering around Kouichi. For people not into harems and might be worried this could become one, please still give this a try. It's been volume 28 and the main couple never stray from each other and no one cheats on the other, not even emotionally.

Other thing to note is that this is still ongoing. The manga started in the 1990s (you'll notice some of the cellphones are outdated, but it's not glaringly obvious besides that) and the original version isn't even completed. The current translations are only a few chapters away from being caught up with the current available chapters.

Beautiful! It makes you want to keep still on your seat and keep on reading. If possible, finish it in one whole day. It might not be a good taste for others, but I can only say this, "IT'S WORTH YOUR TIME, IT'S WORTH READING!". smile

People should read this before freaking out. There is no incest in this manga, nor will there be. Amano is with Touya (later chapters confirm this), who is a friend from school. Amano's younger brother, Jun, is over-protective of him because they were both attacked in the park when they were little and Amano almost died. Jun loves his brother, but not romantically.

Anyway, onto my opinion of this manga: I found it a bit confusing at first, but once you get into it it's less so. Reading up to the current scanlated chapter should be enough for anyone to get what's going on. That said there is still quite a bit of mystery to be revealed. The art is unique and the characters and plot are interesting enough to keep me wanting more. I'm so glad this is being scanlated again!

This is pretty good. The plot is unique, the main character is not a weak crybaby either. A lot of the characters are likable, they grow as the series progresses.

It's worth a read, there is plot and it's not rushed either.

I really love this manga<3 The art is truly beautiful and the plot is very interesting and captivating, not to mention that is not one of those lovey-dovey short stories.
For those worried about the incest, lemme tell you: I've already read till the chapter 89, and there's no trace of that sort of thing, just a little of brother-complex towards Kou from Jun. The main couple is rather expected.
Anyway, don't ignore this comic! You won't regret reading.

Gomen gomen grammar nazis.

@That3rdGuy Well it's not like any incest has appeared yet, right? But if it does, I think I'm gonna drop this. I agree with you, incest is lame and gross.
But until now, the story seems quite nice so you should give it another chance

Japanese sure do enjoy incest. Even if I enjoyed yaoi, I'd never be able to get past the gay brother complex. It's just gross. Imagine if two of your brothers were butt buddies. Or if your brother wanted to have sex with you, assuming you're a boy. Twisted people with serious issues must read this. Anything incest is fucked in the head and their really is no fathomable excuse. The art may be nice, but the content is wrong in so many ways. Has nothing to do with society's view of incest. Family don't fuck eachother. Period.

Great Potential

So we've got the author of the well-known and beloved Ai no Kusabi and the beautiful, supernatural artwork of Kada Michiru...all signs seem to indicate that Yami no Kodou will be a great series. It's really too early to say, however. Even though almost two volumes have been scanlated, the plot's still shrouded in mystery.

We have hints of clans and supernatural forces; of a locked-up Prince who is controlled through drugs; of a great evil about to be unleashed; mauled bodies found around town; and the main character, Kou, dreams of dragons and darkness. What does it all mean? Well, hopefully the story will start to really pick up after the background information has been laid down.

Kou has been feeling drained and tired lately, partly due to his nightmares. His younger brother Jun is incredibly (incredibly!) attached to Kou and worries over his health. His attachment to Kou causes his friend Kamio, who is obsessed with Jun, to become jealous. Meanwhile, Kou's classmate Touya (He of the Sexy Long Hair) starts looking after him and notices something strange...

What we have here is the beginning of what I believe will be an epic story. The shounen-ai is slow in coming (Yes! A more realistic story that doesn't have random sex in the first chapter!). Any hint of BL is more like a joke: "We were totally locked in a hot embrace in front of a whole crowd of people <3," Touya says to Kou. Hee! I have the highest hopes for Yami no Kodou and can't wait to read more.

Just a note to let the adoring ravers (like me) know! Ai No Kusabi is beautiful and poignant. The work is classed as tanbi and is in novel format.
