The introduction was a banger, the follwing chapters were bangers, it was only the last 20 chapters did it seem to lose steam

The end is not as bad as what other commentators say. Its actually pretty well, its not mind blowing, but its ok i guess

Yup that summarizes the whole plot in one sentence. In addition, those fights are brutal.

First let me tell about the antagonist who captured the whole attention : the Buddhas who are handcuffed & gagged with balls in their mouths. If you're imaginative enough you know what this means.
Never seen anything like this being done to an object of worship. No matter how funny this sounds, it is truly a terrible thing to do if you know the backstory.

Since this is shounen, the depthness of this backstory is kept minimum leaving the reader to guess how humiliating this must have been to the Buddhas. But Fukuda sensei could have done a little more with this instead of those fights in the previous chapters. Cuz those fights which the characters fought using their 'odd genius' became kind of meaningless in the end.

Yamato is bound by the five minutes limit to save everyone. This may sound impossible but there is a reason for this time limit of five minutes. No matter how short your time may be, one can change his future if he is earnest enough. Remember this is shounen so relaying messages isn't uncommon.

There is one character though who is quite redundant - the foreign girl. Why is she introduced in the first place? She is quite useless. Fukuda sensei couldn't do much with her.

It's enjoyable despite the shortcomings. I think with its pacing it is quite adaptable for Anime movie.
