A unique storyplot....
by HanaTenshiHimeko

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
A funny and unique idea, but did the author did a perfect job translating that into a manga? I asked myself that question as I was reading this series. To some degree, yes, he made it seem upbeat and want me to keep reading. And to some other degree, I felt like I was dragging myself through mud to try to finish this series.

The romance and the comedy was of course at the top of the chat. You got this girl (or claims that she was a he before he got changed into a girl) who wants to turn back into a guy. Yet, doesn't know how since she had been growing up as a female ever since he got his gender swapped into a girl. Then throw in a couple of guys who are googling-eye this angel beauty who are trying to win her affection and you'll get some chaos comedy.

As for the flow of the story, sometimes I think to myself, "Was that necessary to appear in this story?" So I'll rate it a 7 out of 10. This is one of his mid-early works, so there might be some stiffness in this manga, yet I felt his artwork and storytelling had improved by the end of the manga.

I'll say if you started reading this, then keep reading till the end 'cause there's a big twist (unless you got spoiled already) and I thought even though I was dragging myself to finish this, the ending was quite surprising and felt like the author just popped out and said, "Gotcha!"

Dont be fooled by anything, this story is simply Shoujo with a Tsundere girl as main character who was a guy in the past
Spoiler (highlight to view)
off course later is revealed that in fact she has always been a girl and thus spoiling the whole story, for me at least. I was really disappointed when i found that out

it even kinda has a Reverse-Harem in it.

It's funny and interesting for all of one volume, then it just repeats the same jokes over and over again and moves forward at a snail's pace: Genzo macking on Meg, all the other guys want her too, random gangster attacks, fight fight fight, more silly romantic comedy, fight fight, etc. etc. I seriously think all 20 volumes could have been condensed into 7 or fewer with a great improvement in quality.

I blitzed through it in two days and loved it. There was a few things I didn't entirely love, such as
Spoiler (highlight to view)
letting the enemies escape cleanly
. The ending was expected, but my preference would've been
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Megumi x Miki, so I went "Nooo" inside at the kiss.
. Those are only my personal preferences though, so they don't detract from this manga's value at all.

It's a recommended read.

Read it to the end

Unless you've read this to the end, it won't do you justice... All the main characters are very likable. Plot was alright, flowed well to the end, but the last arc was somewhat pointless. However, guess Nishimori did good by having an action orientated conclusion. Not perfect, but fitting end. More conclusive romance between Kobayashi & Miki (and Ichiro & Keiko?) would've been nice though. Nevertheless, it was satisfying. Laughed my ass off a good deal of the time. Absolutely hilarious XD. And Genzo's the man! What a legend... And is it just me, or does Megu look more 'womanly' in volume one than she does in volume 20? Maybe it's just me... >.>

Great series

ok so i finished it today; after that epic release of 20 volumes a few days ago... anyway it was a great manga, the storyline did drag at times but there are plenty of interesting characters to keep you reading.... comedy wise, it was just ok; i think the interactions between characters made this one

oh and the ending is not so suprising, once you get to volume 13 or so its pretty clear whats actually going on; but only if you payed attention... all in all though it ended as it should have, an awesome way with no loose ends

yea i have the nerve to give it a 10. After hearing about the ending though... I gotta say that the description is very very wrong. I'm sure all of you will understand once you get to the end. The ending is pretty conclusive and it answers all your questions to Megumi's real gender. Serious Kenichi and Miyu complex though, but that's what makes Megu awsome. O man I just want to spoil the ending for everyone but that would be mean and I want this series to be full scanslated so I'll just let the people putting effort into this series tell the story (meaning translating the series for everyone in their words lol). O yea also I support Soga's love for Megumi he earned it. Although most likely in reality they won't last very long as a couple.

I read the english version of this manga and at first liked it. However, some where in the middle I started to dislike this series. Something about it was a little off. I don't know why but I just stop reading it one day.

A very good comedy manga.

Tenshi na Konamaiki (or the English version "A Cheeky Angel") is a very good comedy manga. Some people thinks it's controversial, since the story is about a boy who has been changed to a girl, while his mind of a boy has never changed. Well, that's until you have read near the end of the manga, and you will know it's less controversial than it is (I think it's a very clever move of the author). Even you haven't read till the end of the story, I think it's still appropriate and not controversial at all, since Megumi is physically a 100% girl (Pierrot's magic) and have feelings of a teenager girl and can blushes like a girl and who'can be impressed like a girl by the "heroic deeds" by her male friends like Genzo, Fujiki etc..

Anyways, I never thinks Megumi (the protagonist of the story) is very manly, since she claimed to be a guy; she's in my opinion more a "magnified" tomboy; Megumi actually remind me alittle of Mahiru Suruga (Peridot, an action/martial art/ecchi seinen manga, which is less suitable for the younger readers). Megumi and Mahiru Suruga are both skillful martial artists and are very beautiful. She also got a pervert father who like watching beautiful girls, but Mahiru Suruga's father sometimes shows his usefulness and his martial skills as a skillful martial artist/wrestler in the story, while Megumi's father is only for comical purposes in the manga.

Anyway, this one manga is one you can not miss if you like comedy manga. The art is good and at times very cute (e.g. when Megu and Genzo are together); the story is interesting, actually I keep telling me: "Megumi, don't change back to a guy!" Also I find it very funny when Megumi tries to be a guy while she doesn't know how to do that and keep asking advices from Miki, Megumi's best female friend. And when Megumi acts like a girl, clumsily she tries to find some excuses why she acted like that. Very funny and hilarious (and cute)!

I have seen the anime but I think the sub is not consistent and would cause some misunderstanding and can cause only more confusions for the storyline. I would say read first the manga and then watch the anime for a better understanding of the story.
