AAAAAGGGHH this one gives me such mixed feelings. Rant:
First, the FMC is way too nice and way too quick to apologize & take the blame for EVERYTHING. She didn't argue with anyone when it mattered, she didn't stand up for herself when it mattered-- she sees the bus loudly annouce it's going to run her over and just stands there and gets run over.
Second, the side female characters all suck. They're all obsessed with their crushes/exes/inferiority complexes and it makes them all so nasty. Even the FMC's friends aren't as supportive as you would hope they'd be. I realize how stuck people get in a "Know Your Place" culture but how could you say that to a friend and not immediately regret it?? How?!
Third, tagging this series as primarily "romance" feels... inaccurate (looking at your betrayal, Webtoon eyes). Mr. Perfect was never end game & their relationship felt very background side story and when the breakup happened it happened pretty close to how I'd been expecting for more than half the story. Mr. End Game did the usual suffering in the friend zone but never got his chance in the main story-- BUT! The series ended with a VERY short "5 Years Later" full of potential hope and the perfect lead-in... for fanfic writers everywhere to go ham. sigh
Fourth, why does the "perfect ending" have to be: they turned themselves into the police because it was "the right thing to do"? Why does doing the right thing result in a tarnished record because of one lapse in judgement? No one got hurt. NO ONE. Because of the characters' individual selfishness not even the schools' reputation took a hit.
Fifth, that blue haired bitch didn't suffer AT ALL. She tried so desperately to ruin the FMC's life-- SEVERAL TIMES-- INCLUDING things that could be considered illegal actions-- and nothing came of it. NOTHING.
Sixth, the more I think about the title, the more I dislike it. "Exchange Student" would have been perfect for a season two that focused on Mr. End Game + FMC (that convoluted reunion with extremely low chances of actually happening by accident) while "Student Exchange" would really fit the story as it is right now. Not sure if that was a translation issue or if someone missed the perfect naming opportunity but oh well. I'm just being nitpicky now.
Despite all this, I quite liked Mr. End Game... Even stuck in The Friend Zone, he was a really good character.
