You've been trolled! You've been trolled!

What is Aki-Sora?

The first four chapters are actually pretty good. Maybe a shade on the porn side, but we see an actual plot begin to develop.

Right off the bat, we're given the back story of our hero, an effeminate, timid boy who is dotted on by the heroine, his sister, to whom he has a clear and obvious complex over. We're also introduced to Sora's fraternal twin, Nami, who doesn't appear to be particularly fond of her brother, but also doesn't seem to hate him. More importantly, she looks to be a completely normal, "incest is wrong" twin sister. Nami's friend, Kana, is your stereotypical bespectacled shy girl with a crush on our hero.

Great! And at this point, I may have to warn of spoilers. If anyone cares enough, I'll throw a giant spoiler box over it, but really, there is no plot to spoil in Aki-Sora, since there is no plot... I'll put in a spoiler box anyway. I don't wanna be "that guy".

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Ahhh, chapter one. Aki and Sora do the mattress dance, and you think: "Alright, cool. Looks like we'll be skipping the usual 20 chapters of 'But we can't!' and get right into the action and drama that will come when facing the taboo of two blood related siblings attempting a sexual relationship."

Excellent!

Chapter two comes out and we get a nice glimpse into the mind of Nami as well as a healthy dose of yuri. And you think: "Ohhh, I see, I see. Nami's somewhat harsh attitude towards her twin is because she loves her friend who has a crush on her brother. Hmmmm... a complex formed through jealousy over something Sora has no control over: his gender. An "as long as my beloved is happy" plot with twinges of regret and envy. Can't wait to explore that."

What could go wrong?

And so, chapter three rolls around, and it gives us some porn disguised by a cute back story with sprinklings of Sora doubting the line he's already crossed. As you remember how slender Sora's naked hips were while he was crushing his sister's internal organs, you briefly wonder why the author adds thirty pounds to his waste-line when he's wearing clothing.

Wincest is best!

Then 4.0 happens. Here, we're met with some ho who gets her rocks off exposing herself in public venues. Well... this might be interesting. And it is! But our hapless hero is swept up in infidelic sexual acts!

Oh no! How will he ever face his beloved Aki again!?

4.5's answer? IGNORE THAT IT HAPPENED ENTIRELY!! YEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAW SORA!! ROCK YOUR SISTERS BOX, DUDE!!!!!!! TROLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, what? H-he didn't even have a TWINGE of guilt!? Nothing!? W-well, maybe that was just a side chapter. I bet in the next REAL chapter he seriously contemplates the guilt he certainly must feel over his actions in chapter 4.0.

Surely.

Chapter five.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!!!!!!!! MINDS AS CLEAR AS THE SUNNY SKIES!!!!! EXCUSE ME WHILE I FILL MY SISTER AND THIS HOT SPRING WITH A BUCKET FULL OF MY HIGHLY IMPROBABLE AMOUNT OF NUT BUTTER!!!!! TROLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Wait! Wait! Wait! Timeout! Did 4.0 even happen!? Was that some kind of alternate reality? Am I to believe that's not considered cheating in Japan? Or am I to believe that the cute and effeminate, sister-complex shota-boy with broader hips than his female twin, doesn't understand the concept of fidelity? Chapter five didn't have the answer I was looking for. M-maybe chapter six will get us back on track.

Yes! Onward to chapter six!

Chapter six.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL, HERO!? ARE YOU A FUCKING BLOW UP DOLL!? GET UP MAN! GET UP! Oh good, he came to his senses. Now all he has to do is get the hell outta... HUH!? WAIT! WAKE UP! SORA, NOOOOOOO!!!

Seriously, I couldn't give a damn what the ho is doing, who she is doing it with, how many STD's were involved in the making of this chapter and how many visits to the Maury show she'll have to make in order to find her "baby daddy". Don't care. What she does is her business.

And this may sound odd, but I don't really care that Sora heads down the path laden with barbs. Actually, you're almost to expect it. This is supposedly a story about an incestuous relationship after all, and it's a common plot point to portray one of the characters as unsure or uncommitted to his/her taboo choice, ultimately leading to mistakes that can't be undone without dealing with the major ramifications of his/her grand self destruction.

But that's the problem. He cheats, and cheats, and cheats and is never faced with any kind of regret or guilt toward betraying the supposed object of his affection, nor any real self-reflection regarding the taboo relationship they share. Aki becomes just another girl with an impressive axe-wound between her legs and Sora's got an axe to grind. And grind. And grind.

We look to chapter seven expecting to see a mind-screwed Sora who'll never be able to look Aki in the eye again, but we don't see that. He doesn't think twice about it. In fact, he gets a titty-fuck from Sumiya. *faceplam* This is the point where I know for certain that I've been trolled. I went to ITOSUGI Masahiro's profile page fully expecting an enormous picture of trollface as the author avatar. The brief bio simply containing the words "u mad?".

What's the point of even writing a story of this nature when the protagonist has virtually no mental or physical consequence for any of his actions? Chapter 8? Please. He's just doing his favorite blow-up doll impression... again. Later he says he was scared of her. Frightened people don't get erections and even in the event that he did get it up, you can tug and tug and tug on that little guy but he'll never cum a fucking bucket. Sorry, folks! The human penis doesn't work that way! Sure, you could use the stalwart, grade-school defense of "this is manga", but when you attempt to weave a story with "drama" and sex, I at least expect a certain level of realism (5-gallon cumshots notwithstanding). He liked it. The end.

Without a valid plot, Aki-Sora looses all it's thrill or credibility. In the beginning there's a thrill because you wonder if they'll be caught and what problems will occur when they finally do get busted. But later, rampant cheating aside, the Aki X Sora scenes will put you to sleep and it's mostly because she loses credibility as his sister. If they don't think about the moral boundaries they're crossing as they copulate like endorphin induced rabbits, then she becomes his sister on paper. It's like watching a porn movie titled "Taboo Bro&Sis Incest! Vol. 37198" starring the blackest dude you've ever seen in your life and the palest redhead in the history of the universe. NOT BUYING IT.

To which you may say "So what? If the author says they're siblings then they are!" Incorrect. It's the burden of the author to sell the idea that these two are, in fact, siblings. She portrayed that quite nicely in the beginning, but failed to maintain the status quo throughout the story. If you want an example of a work that sells the idea that 'x' and 'y' are full blood siblings completely, go read or watch Koi Kaze. Basically, any story that revolves around incest needs at LEAST one person who thinks it's disgusting and wrong and has brains enough read between the lines. Or like I said before, an unsure partner with a conscience. Or both. If you have NEITHER, then what's the point? Why even bother with "incest" if you're not going to explore the taboo?

Where are you my shining moral compass character? Nowhere.

I mean, he's banging his "sister". So what? By now, if someone were to walk in on them while they're busy SCREAMING the play by play action to their "incestuous" hump-a-thon, rather than being disgusted at the sight and sounds, they'll probably just ask to join in. To which, you may think "haha badkarma" because you think I'm making a joke. I'm not. This ACTUALLY happens in chapter 24.

Thanks, Aki-Sora. You've just cheapened the thrill of incest. And cheating.

In chapter 10, it's like the author thought "Hmmm... how can I spice things up for Aki and Sora? I got it! Public places!" But that plan backfires when you realize it's actually MORE dangerous for them to be doing it at HOME, thus making happy time with Aki infinitely lamer. I suppose using the magic of manga they could run into someone, but the person who interrupts the meat slapping session you're having with your sister at HOME has a damn near 100% chance of knowing who you are. Isn't that the REAL thrill of incest? Besides, aren't public adventures what the ho from chapter four is for?

Case and point. Which has more shock value? The scene at the beginning of chapter three or chapter ten?

It almost feels like I'm reading a weird, disjointed visual novel since the chapters seem to have no flow or sense of continually. Sora appears to suffer from selective plot amnesia while Aki outright disappears when it's not her turn to hide the salami. This makes it seem like I'm reading two separate routes that exist in parallel universes, never to cross... like a visual novel. Well, THREE separate routes if you include the ho in chapter four.

Wanna hop on the Nami/Kana route? Skip the first chapter and read chapter two. Skip 3, 4, 5, and 6. Read 7 and 8 then skip alllll the way to 15, 16, 17, 21, and 22. Chapter 24 is the branch point where you choose between Nami, Kana, both or neither. For giggles, you can throw in chapter 12 and 18 at random points, but treat Alice and that little ass-gnome Miharu as a cross-dressing leprechaun that only appears when Sora is day-dreaming during homeroom. Seriously, it makes more sense this way.

This would be better off if the author simply skipped the incest or any build up of a plot from the get-go since clearly it never intended to have any kind of focus or deal with it in any way. Aki is merely treated like any other bimbo he sticks his grubby little cock into, living in blissful ignorance while waiting for her brothers next bucket full of lovin'. You might be able to enjoy this title for the porn, but the male lead is an annoying shota boy with no redeeming physical or social traits whatsoever. "Ah. Oh, no! Stop! Please don't! I'm gonna...!" Bitch, please. That shit loses it's believability after 30+ sexual encounters. Stop it.

Anyway, read it if you like, but don't you DARE think for a moment it has a plot or give a damn about the characters. Read it with a grain of salt. It's porn. In fact, it's an insult to porn writers. I've seen better porn scenarios that chronicle the trials of a lone pizza boy's successful infiltration into a cougar's den and his masterful delivery of "extra sausage". Way better. You'll also notice I avoided the whole "OMG DIS ISN'T HENTAI!!" debate by calling it porn. You're right, it's not "hentai". But it is porn. Disagree? GREAT! Now, go show it to your mother. She'll be thrilled.

Fact: If you read Aki-Sora as anything other than laughable porn, the Gods of whining might compel you to write a rant that I can't recommend you read even if doing so would solve world hunger.

So then to answer the question I asked... what is Aki-Sora? Nothing. Trash at best. I'm not even gonna rate it because I can't give it a zero.

This series has the potential to become something special. Now I agree with the fact that Ch. 6 took a wrong turn but lets see if some of the angst being shown catches up with the author. Maybe he will see his fans don't like the new direction his series is going and maybe he will go back to the (in my opinion) very intriguing and engaging plot the previous chapters had. This author is extremly talented and I believe this will be a great series. Definitely a series worth reading!

I don't think c6 was a betrayal of Runa's character at all. For Runa, being watched is the most significant part of eroticism, so she gave her first time to someone else while Sora watched. Similarly, I don't see the potential relationship as being friends, or even friends with benefits, i think Runa is quite serious in her own way, but playacts a lighter approach.

The series got off to a hot start, in all senses of the word. The relationship between Sora and his sister Aki was immediately sexual, highly erotic, and yet very endearing. Their love for each other is very clear. And on top of that, they were caught in a dangerous love rectangle, with their secret in danger of being exposed. Aki seems to take this threat lightly; Sora does not. Nami, their sister (and Sora's almost identical looking twin), undergoes character conflict as she repeatedly finds herself the third wheel (although she doesn't quite know how far apart she is from her siblings) and is also jealous of Sora for the crush that another girl, Kana (this time not a member of the family) has on him.

All in all, this set up holds tremendous potential. Too bad the author seems to be gearing this series more as hentai than a drama/romance with sex.

In chapter 4, another character, Runa, gets thrown into the mix. In her first appearance, she is also pretty endearing. Her endearing qualities seem to vanish in the sixth chapter where she does something that, frankly, is pretty unforgiveable. I won't reveal the details of what, exactly, but she's basically counting on "all men are perverts" with Sora. Not to mention, it felt like a serious betrayal of her character considering that she had been careful in the past and yet lets the cat out of the bag suddenly and dangerously, forcing Sora into a position he'd probably rather not be in along with her.

If you're looking for hentai billed as just another seinen mag, then you might actually like the direction the manga seems to be heading in as of chapter 6, but if the plot is of interest to you, then you will probably feel a little betrayed.

I won't rate it for now; I'll at least wait until I see what direction the author takes it in.

It is very cute and has a very interesting story. It has its hentai scenes but the story is quite good (though the first chapter is stereotypical). It is one of the few manga that actually touched me...I found chapter 6 VERY strange and kinda painful (to me, it felt like betrayal)

Oh hi. Just here to mention: 1.) wincest, 2.) twincest, 3.) yuri, 4.) gender bender, aaaand 5.) boobies. This has to be setting some kind of record for ecchi theme density. Holy crap wow.

Setting that aside, this sure is an interesting one. It's kinda dark and depressing, and at the same time full of awesome.

The "standard lightsaber censoring" is NOT used in hentai. It is used for smut, yaoi, and adult rated works. Hentai will have a very detailed penis, with skin and everything, and perhaps a tiny bar near the glans. It's typically almost "where's waldo?" censoring.

That's probably why it's rated as adult instead of hentai as well.

read a damn hentai. the sole purpose of hentai is to get you aroused and to bust a nut. ecchi is th between space of not showing off body figures, and being the soul purpose of getting off. if anything borderline h is THE BEST tag this can get because they have sex. and so you know, softcore porn is technically pictures of people in erotic poses fully clothed, to being nude. and you know that you cant call it porn of any kind without a single tit. if you want to equate this to soft core porn this would be like sports illustrated swimsuit edition.

One of the worst manga series I ever read.

The series had a pretty good premise. A pair of close siblings become even closer, too close for some. What could have been was a story that explored the taboo nature of their relationship. Whether it condemned or condoned it didn't matter. It could have even kept all of the sex.

But what we got was a story that got smuttier and smuttier every chapter with little regard to consequences.

Aki shows little regard for how her relationship with her brother could be perceived, or cared whether it was right or wrong. But Sora was far worse. Infidelity may as well have been his middle name because when he wasn't having sex with his older sister, he was having sex with some other girl.

Granted some of the events weren't necessarily avoidable. For instance, at one point he gets knocked out at a party and repeatedly date raped. He tells Aki about absolutely none of his sex encounters.

He shows absolutely no remorse for his actions. The story could have been trying to portray polyamory in a positive light, but it absolutely failed. The only time the story actually judges any of the character's actions, it judges the incest. Honestly, the incest is the least of it all. Aki leaves him out of a newfound guilt, and Sora is crushed.

Well, not so crushed that he won't have sex with the next girl that asks. But crushed. That is until he realizes what is truly important to him. And then promptly having sex with the next girl that asks. Anyway, the story ends on an incredibly unsatisfying note.

Sora thought he would get Aki back, because he really loved her and she really loved him. He was half right, or maybe not. There can be sad endings. There can be depressing endings. But this was bad. I think if the story was more focused on the actual romance and taboos of it all it would have been a lot better. A short story about a pair of siblings romantically loving each other before coming to terms with tragic taboos would have been much better. Instead the story went nowhere for too long and wrapped up in some of the worst and contradicting ways it could. Even a nice boat ending would have been better.

For a better portrayal that looks at the issue seriously, I would recommend Koi Kaze. The story is much more taboo, being about a pair of siblings with an age gap of 12 years. It doesn't ignore the taboos.

I would also recommend the similarly named Yosuga no Sora series. All three of the versions are quite different, the VN being a hentai, the anime being a borderline H series, and the manga being much more tame (it was published in a shounen magazine even).
