"Ew. Gross. Disturbing?" was essentially my main reaction throughout these one-shots. There were many interesting elements, but I think it ruined the Orange Chicken I was eating....I probably would've given this a much higher rating if only I wasn't eating my food at the time!!!!
I did laugh in most of the one shots though, I'll give you that.
Whelps.
if you, like me, grew up reading european fairy tales, this will be a treat to you. they are all short about 2 to 3 pages except the first and the last story. there are lot of mature content such as pedophilia and cannibalism, but i think all of them are done in a pretty comedic and humorous way you cant help but smile. except the last chapter about jesus, theres no comedy and i cant help but think it is a bit mean spirited and jarring compared to the others because even though the gore is quite standard with the other chapters its not done to be laughed at. but i think still its good, as well as the others, so you wont regret this.
That is the only reason why people are hating on this, you know how those bunch of hypocrites go around saying that Muslims and other religious groups don't have a sense of humor? well, this manga probes that Christians don't excel in that department either, and like dogmatic zealots will disregard the entire compilation and hate on the whole work just for one story, immaturity at its finest.
Don't believe the false promises of gore that GrayEminence dares to utter, the only challenge here is if you can take a joke and read a story in which Jesus is portrayed like a sociopath villain leader of a cult, hahaha, just the premise is hilarious, so you will fail because you can't take a parody, and that is the challenge, should you be offended? yes, that is normal, but should you hate the whole work? no, that just doesn't makes sense.
If anyone reads the first dozen (almost charming) chapters and wonders why this series is getting low ratings, the answer is the final chapter I.N.R.I.
It's sacrilegious in a way that even Dawkins or Anton LaVey would declaim as over-the-top, and so graphically grotesque and puerile Dahmer would set it down.
Now I realize a lot of meatheads will read the above and say "challenge accepted", but don't bother. Even as guro it fails.
