They were both busy with work and had been living apart from each other.

Mofu suspects Mamoru is cheating on him and has reverted to his furball form. According to Moff's instruction manual, if he is not loved by someone other than his master (Mamoru) within a year, he will disappear.

But Mofu had no intention of being loved by anyone other than his master, and Mamoru didn't want that either.
