First and foremost, I really don't understand people that find this digusting (the ML's behaviour). KNOW WHAT YOU READ! If you want clean-cut, applie pie cute relationships where the ML and FL are full partners and everything is fine and dandy, go for some sweet shojou. I for one don't read much things anymore. I want complex emotions and situations, where I can stand and think and not knows what to judge. and I already strive to read such manhwa. This one fails in several regards, but actually touches some pretty tricky topics. The whole superstar fame syndrom, where pop idols becomes objects of intense obsession, crazy fans, mixed marriages in Korea, Othello syndrome, the feeling of inferiority that people with low degre of education suffer from... There is a lot to unpack.
But then we get a pretty flimsy 26 chapter long manhwa without much depth. Like WHY? When you dangle so many intrguing elements in front of us, just to leave it all at the most basic level. And this is the major downfall of this work, and why it's still a mediocre thing that I won't remember for a long time.
And now what many people don't agree with me, but the FL here is meh and the ML is much more intriguing . IMHO, the worst manhwa character is a boring one. I prefer total batshit crazy chars to those who are simply bland and goodie-two-shoes. The FL is a typical docile, introverted, good woman with very little faults of her own. She's painted as a victim of circumstance that gets involved with a supertar who mistreats her. Did you find this interesting. Nope. Literary any other female char could fill in her place, and you wouldn't notice. If only she had any personality, this could have been a much better piece of work, but sadly... Not.
ML, for all of his faults, is a flawed but fascinating character. He does indeed mistreat the FL and behaves like a yandere so of course he is not a sterling character. However, there is a backstory and to some degree you understand his psychological make-up, altough this too was too shallow for such a serious topic. As a superstar, he's totally messed up and exposed to unhumane circumstances, just nobody notices this. Everybody things his life is all fine and dandy, when in fact it's not. he becomes totally unhinged and this part I wanted to be given a glimpse in the manhwa. After Hari left, how did he behave? Did he take therapy? Did he meditate on his life so far? Did he become aware of the toxicity of his lifestyle, and how it turned him into a paranoid freak? But we get none this, and IMGO THIS is supposed to be the backbone of the manhwa.
How both Yohan and Hari slowly heal from the scars of the past, and how they do into the future stronger people, making their own choices. And if Hari wants to be with Yohan, then do it! I read some comments on another site and was surprised at the intense negativity. It's like Yohan can't move on from his life and become a better person? THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT! And people are so judgamental towards him. But the heck, let everyone see this the way they like. But when you read josei, be ready for morally grey things, and no black and white moments.
