Only attractive women are allowed to be complex characters in this. Even one of the bitchiest antagonists gets to have a sob story. Thankfully.
Usually a harem or harem subtext story only has women there to decorate the scene. They do nothing useful, say nothing useful and could be replaced with a machine to do the exact same thing.
The men are one dimensional. They are all evil, disgusting bastards. Especially if they're good looking and have unique character designs, they will turn out bad or betray MC.
If they're helpful for any lengh of time they die. Or get life altering injuries and never to be seen again, unless it's just as a voice or a one panel cameo some 30 chapters later.
So far, there's exactly one buff, scruffy dude who's kind of on MC's side. He's not all that powerful and neither is he a pretty boy. He's definitely not around MC's age either so there's no danger of him taking attention away from MC.
Not suprisingly, he's not shown much even if he is useful, whereas some random woman MC runs across gets more screentime, fleshed out back story and even more random ass, frequent interactions with MC.
That's how I know a story will be shit in an action comic. If there are no people of the same gender, age, socioeconomic status and even sexuality as MC who is also as powerful if not more than him in the story then it will not be good.
It means MC is a Gary Stu or Mary Sue.
If it's a straight male comic all the gorgeous and not so gorgeous women, including the bad ones, exist to ride MC's dick, metaphorically or literally. They will always get the most screen time, even if it makes the rest of the story and characters suffer.
If it's a straight women's comics then all the gorgeous men exist to love and dote and glaze the female MC. Or they love to hate her, obsessed with her and want to kill her but have her at the same time.
Unfortunately I've read to that stage in this manhwa where all the beautiful women are coming in to save MC or attack him or find him "so intriguing". His harem has grown and is coming together now.
Dropped at Ch. 41.
