Manga adaptation based on Kuroneko's story, which starts in the 5th light novel.
6 Volumes (Complete)
I started reading this version of Oreimo about the same time that I was reading the original Oreimo manga. It featured Kuroneko, who in my opinion is one of the best characters in the series, so I was eager to read it. Besides, I liked what I was reading in Oreimo anyways.
However, it does feel like it's missing something. The Oreimo manga ended with the ending to the second light novel, and this story starts around the ending of the fourth. This much of a gap between events is really jarring, and it was for me back then, even though I hadn't known anything about the light novels then. I was expecting the Oreimo manga to fill in the gaps, but since that didn't happen it's frustrating for the story to introduce these characters from seemingly out of nowhere, like that writer from Volume 3 of the light novels, and expect you to know who they are from what little detail is given. They don't show up for long, but still, some more information would have been nice. I don't like having to look anything up while I'm reading.
Also, I'm a little disappointed that there weren't more characters in this story. What I think is one of the better parts of the Oreimo light novels is the interactions with the different characters, from the overly-serious Ayase to the bratty but likeable Kanako. Their inclusions felt like they livened up the story a bit, but not take it too far off the rails. I liked seeing those characters interact with Kyousuke, so it's kind of sad to see them show up only briefly here.
But even despite this, I still enjoyed the story. The relationship between Kyousuke and Kuroneko was easily one of the best parts of the light novels, so it's nice to see that get the focus here. The art definitely helps make it cuter than it already was. And I'm glad the ending wasn't as atrocious as what happened in the light novels, but that's just me.
If you read the Oreimo manga or the light novels, perhaps even both, I would recommend this. It may feel like fluff here and there, but it's entertaining fluff.
