There are some times, when I read a BL I'm thinking that the couple shouldn't be together. Realistically they're not a good match and deep down I know they will not last long. It's the case with Chihiro and Yujin.
Keep in mind that it's a 2009 manga, so it's pretty much "old school" and like all old school BL, it's full of drama, angst, conflicts, misunderstandings, jealousy, cheating and all the ugly sides of love.
I'm used to it and don't mind it cause at least it's realistic and more or less relatable. However, unlike let's say "The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese" where all parties were toxic, both in the wrong but still a match for each other, this one didn't sell their "love" that well.
Their relationship was problematic from the get go, Chihiro never evolved, he started as extremely jealous, possessive, insecure, needy and childish and stayed as it throughout the whole manga. Yujin had his wrongs too but he wasn't as bad. There were many moments where both reflected on their behavior but never attempted to change.
Their relationship started off too fast, it was rushed and too easy. Not to mention the whole thing was repetitive : they are lovey dovey, next thing you know Chihiro starts being jealous for no reason, then as a way to show his possessiveness he uses sex (rape), finally he feels guilty and apologize to Yujin. Wash, rinse and repeat for 5 whole chapters.
I hated their relationship and couldn't stand Chihiro. I felt like watching a bird (Yujin) that liked to fly everywhere. Then one day the bird met a child (Chihiro) who became obsess with him to the point that he encaged him for only him to see.
The bird was a free spirit and the child deprived him of his freedom by putting him in a cage where he couldn't fly anymore, where no one could see him and not one could hear him sing or tweet. That's not love, it's an obsession or infatuation.
