The synopsis is misleading

This novel is good. It's actually very good. It is somewhat similar to Attack on Titan, but the humans' enemies aren't Titans but mutated animals that transformed into monsters due to a virus.

However, not only the animals' DNA had been mutated but also the humans' DNA too. The action starts somewhere after 2050 and it's quite interesting how the society is structured considering that it's not an imaginary world but our own Earth, just a few tens of years in the future after a global pandemic.

The MC is not an idiot nor a pervert. He is a nice guy whose most important goal is to help his family, especially his handicapped little brother. That is the reason he works hard to become a 'Fighter' - people who are fighting against monsters with their life on the line.

Give it a try, I'm enjoying it just as much as I enjoy CD and ST.

Xianxia with a sci-fi setting

The other commenter doesn't get xianxia stories or why the modern weapons don't hold up. The story is a classic Chinese hero power fantasy in a slightly more advanced era. It's a bit more mature than some of the other IET series but not by much. If you like Xianxia series give it a shot the story really picks up in the third/fourth volumes

one of the common theme of IET novel is that if you read one, you can pretty much guesse what will be on other novel.
mc starts out from humble background. soon after every one realizes he is a genius.
couple of volume describing explosive power ups. some petty villains along the way, who at first seems mighty. but mc power ups so much, that he kill them with no problems what so ever. then the story becomes hectic. author keeps on introducing New power levels and society, where previously mighty considered power level are like janitor or somethin. mc trains more and levels up. New sets of villains who targets mc just because. mc has a girlfriend who he got married with at the beginning or at the end of story. in both cases she doesn't contribute anything substantial to the story etc. this story while set in modern era is pretty much the same.
remember if you are reading a IET novel, no matter how impressed you are with the world or plot. IET is bound to stack other more powerful dimension on top it.

Unique world setting (more matured personality main character)

alright my opinion from this novel was :

this novel bring so many unique things, i would say the author make a very good job in creating the world, cultivitation, skill and etc. its really matched with the world setting. this is a novel where u will see xianxia in modern setting, where a weapon like plasma gun even exits and used by every race (really unique)

i would say that i will rate this novel around 8/10 ( already read at volume 22+)

the drawback from this novel was, yeah...no romance LOL..but the combat and world setting really awesome, i would say that this novel have almost 90% unique ideas. its really different from other xianxia novel where this novel setting focused on the universe.

another drawback on this novel was the story seems average but not bad, because the author more focused on unique settings, so the story seems a little dull and its too much focused on power UP STORY. (i feel pity on the main character wife ..sigh!!..lacking romance)

the main character personality, its good, not excessive killer and more matured, but just like people say the author not really good to make a romance story........BUT the world setting, battle, skill, and cultivitation very unique & awesome.

what i mean about more matured main character were:

main character know his own weakness and try to improve it
the main character not learning every single skill, so the main character only focused on the skill that really suited to him.
the main character not become number 1 on the tournament. but he still improving himself.
the main character not a street killer...LOL
the author make the main character think twice before he act to try get some "miracle luck things" which improve his skill or cultivitation by larger margin.
and etc

But the update is so slow... Like REALLY slow. I wonder how much the translator get from donation money.

With all the drama about translator hijacking each other series and some even claim it like it's their territory, it feels like a gang war going on. I hope someone hijack this series for a faster update. If any series deserve a Hijacking it's this one.

Great Novel

I was looking forward to reading this novel, because of the high rating. However, I was disappointed with the pacing of the story. It has a good premise, but it reads (I've been reading [color=black]swallowed star[/color] at kisslightnovels.) more like a slice-of-life mood. The MC takes this test, then he has to take that exam, etc. I tried to power through the first 26 chapters, but the story is boring. Surprisingly several people rated this novel high, I guess different strokes for different folks.

Read up to v5. ch 26.

IET makes a try to write a more mature novel. Unfortunatly, this isnt his strong side. Battles become boring, the now increased interaction between male/female falls flatt and the explosive fun of powerups have been downplayed. The blend of modern tech and oldschool weapons aint working very well since IET disregards the battlestyle that would have been possible with the modern tech. His pacing also suffers when writing in a mature style.

Now this sounds like a bad review but if I wasnt comparing this to his other works its a solid 5/10.
