Great potential, Awful realisation

Review based on the first ten chapters. Careful, spoilers ahead.

The premise of this manga seems a bit cliché but still quite interesting at first. At first we can understand the low self esteem of MC due to his physique and constant bullying. But when he levels up and becomes super strong and handsom and telented etc. , the author continues to smear in our face the same self loathing in the most forced way possible. It makes MC seems really stupid and pathetic, and the most exciting part of this type of manga (the evolution from weak to strong) is completely spoiled by mc's constant unjustified self loathing. Funnily enough, when he goes isekai he becomes this super strong dark knight who kills unbelievably strong monsters with no hesitation and regret, but suddenly when he's asked to play football, he drowns himself in self pity for not having any talent without even trying. Of course, "genius author" resorts each time to the cliché "no choice but to use his power" situation in order for him to demonstrate his overwhelming capacity, where mc himself gets surprised by his own abilities (imagine getting those super power and being dumb enough to not even test them out of curiosity). Why does he never tests his capacity? why doesn't he appraise people to see he is 1000 times stronger than them? How come his brother can push him to the ground with his super human force? why did he wait weeks before checking himself in a mirror? Everyone calls him a model and he can kill lvl.450 monster and yet why does he thinks he is weak? All those plot conveniences makes the story trash and unreadable for people with minimum standards. Too bad.

Beautiful Art, Iffy Plot

This one is a little weird. On one hand, it does some really interesting and unique things I want to see more of:

-Time gets consistently spent between both worlds.
-MC is kind.
-The girls actually seem to act in more subtle ways compared to many other stories.
-Neat monsters
-Interesting sub plots
-Manga jumps all over the place

Then there are some downright infuriating or frustrating things:
-All the MC's 'enemies' hate him for no reason whatsoever.
-MC's bizarre inability to understand his own strength or look in a mirror for over a week.
-Manga jumps all over the place.

I want more, but at the same time it doesn't seem to escape the negative parts of the tropes it uses.

Interesting characters, interesting plot and interesting world... all held back by nonsensical details that test or break one's suspension of disbelief.

Personally, I rate it higher, but objectively I rate it what you see.

I didn't read the novel, so my experience is just with the manga, I'm really enjoying what's going on until the current chapter, 6.

The idea of an isekai where the connection between worlds is possible, is very interesting and I need to know how the story will add new elements.

in short, this manga is pretty balanced on it genre, also having such kind and innocent mc making it more enjoyable the longer you read it, having great art style to the point every male and female character is likeable even for the antagonist one, really recommend this one for sure.

At first it was so bad it was a little good and this kept me reading, but it got worse.

There's no suspension of disbelief.

There are a number of characters in the world around him, some never having met him before, that for no reason want to go out of their way to try to ruin or kill him at the risk of ruining their own lives. None of them have anything better to do.

A lot of "where's the police" moments. It's not like there's no law in the world, but that the author forces antagonists to get away with everything up to a point.

The manga inadvertently portrays that unattractive people should be treated horribly or even killed.

When he gets stronger he's oblivious about the changes that occur in himself and his appearance and the way others perceive him over it.

He starts to run into many nice, attractive people, some of them girls that insta-fall for him, and it's happy-go-lucky enough to the point that it's painful to read.

The two worlds for the most part are separate stories. His cheat development in the other world becomes unimportant from day one since he levels up enough to already be superhuman.

Isekai slop (Derogatory)

It's a power fantasy Isekai. The mc gets an immense amount of power and favour for no reason other than him being "kind". Every woman loves him and every man respects him. Everything goes his way and he suffers no real difficulties or problems.

And you know what? That's okay. Isekai power fantasies are trash, but they're enjoyable trash. They're like junk food. You're not coming in expecting anything mind blowing narratively, you just want the satisfaction of a romp where nothing really goes wrong with an mc enjoyable enough (or bland enough) to make the journey pleasant.

...and this fails at that.

The MC is not bland, nor is he enjoyable. He's a pathetic whelp of a person who still thinks he is incapable and unlikeable after saving more lives than your average firefighter does in their whole career. He's strong enough literal gods can't see the end of his potential and tell him as much, and waifus of all sorts and statures heap praise upon him to the point a princess outright proposed to him, yet for some reason he still thinks he is an incapable nobody and no one has any reason to like him. He's passive and has no sense of self-worth -- a perfect embodiment of all the things that make Isekai mcs unlikable.

At the start of the series? I get it. He was a pushover and didn't have superpowers or people that liked him. But at this point we're weeks (or even months?) post-transformation and he still can't even conceptualize that he might be capable of more than your average person.

The series also really fumbles its setting. This is a rare Isekai where the connection is actually two-ways, so he can go back and forth between modern Japan and the unnamed fantasy land. And then it just... doesn't do anything with that. They're effectively just two separate stories. None of the events that take place in one world affect the other, nor do any characters carry over. Hell, the mc doesn't even seem to be the same character -- his behaviour is completely different between the modern and fantasy worlds. Don't worry, he still has negative self-esteem as his primary character trait in both, though, so you won't find one markedly more enjoyable than the other.

But hey, I hear it's still better than the anime.
