This is certainly one of the more unusual manga titles I've read recently, not because of the supernatural element but rather because of the lack of proper explanation for many events that occured to produce that supernatural element lol. I'm not sure if keeping the reveal to the mystery so vague and ambiguous with many questions unanswered was a good choice from the author, when she's the one who dedicated so much time and space to expanding that mystery and hooking the audience with it in the first place. It inevitably creates this gap between expectation and reward for the readers, making them feel unsatisfied and 'cheated' after having been so invested and unable to fully appreciate everything else that the mangaka wanted to convey with this story. That'd be a shame for every party involved.

I'm normally very okay with an open ending, but this ending felt like an incomplete tease! Not to spoil anything, but when the entire narrative, as trippy as it was, surrounds an entire relationship, regardless if it was platonic or romantic, it should have some kind of definition or resolution. What did Hiura and Kageyama end up becoming? If they stayed in limbo, so to speak, I would have liked some confirmation on that. What happened to Naoto? Did he reconcile with his brother? There are a lot of questions left afterwards and I would have liked a little more closure on that.

That being said, this was a fantastic read. I'm always interested in stories that focus on an unreliable narrator that may be experiencing hallucinations or cannot differentiate between dreams and reality. The sliding sense of reality was nicely conveyed and you really feel for Hiura, who is desperately looking for the truth about his beloved friend and cannot come to terms with the fear that he may be gone. The penultimate scene was heart-wrenching and made me tear up. The stark relief was palpable and relatable. Very well done.
