The author, Shinzo Keigo, was hospitalized for malignant lymphoma during the coronavirus pandemic. This manga essay chronicles his treatment and recovery and how he came up with the idea for his new series, Hirayasumi.

Dear Shinzou Keigo-sensei,
I hope that your malignant lymphoma was cured. I didn't read the manga's description properly and thought maybe you just visited the hospital for something nonthreatening during Covid. I never thought it was cancer.
Although you made it light, I'm not sure if it was the case. Especially when your mangas, I love them by the way, are all seem to be breezy even if the subject matters are tough. It assume it must have been hard, even daunting, for you and your family. I have family members with cancers too. So with all my heart, I hope you are well and good and will continue to be so in many years to come.
I love Hirayasumi. Thank you for bringing it to life and sharing, alleviating and accentuate life as it is. And thank you for sharing your stories at the hospital. I'm glad you was discharged and I'm glad (hopefully so) Hirayasumi came home with you.
