A different protagonist
by BlackMagister

Monster X Monster takes place in a world clearly inspired by the Monster Hunter video game series, but of course adds a story. Man used to be hunted by monsters, but ended up reversing the situation and now the world economy is based on hunting monsters. The people that hunt monsters are called "Bringers," but our main character does not start as a "Bringer" rather he is a NEET, an unemployed shut in who doesn't look for work.

A lot of people seem to hate the series because of the main character mainly the first three chapters repeat a cycle where our MC is about to reform, but doesn't. In each of those chapters he meets a character that could be a typical shounen, protagonist for example a young man who wants to be the number 1 "Bringer", to contrast with a loser MC.

Once you get to chapter 4 you'll realize where the series is going and how his character will be developed. He will never develop into a fearless warrior, but he does find his own strength. The series is definitely a comedy, but it still has serious and dramatic moments which show up with the plot.

MC reminds me of the MC from "How I stalked some dude with an exposed nipple and stumbled upon the Zenithian Sword", except this MC is more scummy yet alpha af (dude doesnt give a **** about anything)

First few chapters were pretty funny but nothing substantial, however the latest chapters looked promising. (Spoilers tho, the feels train does make an appearance and it will right hook you in the face.)

The design of the monsters is awesome and the art is well done. Can't wait for more chapters smile

Slow to start but strong when it picks up pace

The manga definitely took its liberty with setting the scenario of the protagonist's life and such. However, After around Chapter 5, I believe, the manga picks up its pace and you actually start feeling for the protagonist(Even more so after a few story elements are revealed). The setting of the world in itself is quite interesting from the get-go so that's not a problem. Overall, I'm really looking forward to how the manga develops and where the author takes this work.

This manga have very good art and character expressions are hilarious funny given the situation (you should check it out just to see them). The first couple of chapter story repeats itself, but now it actually going somewhere (I have read up to chapter 12). I liked it so far. One downside however, is that I expected it to be a little bit more realistic, but turns out that our MC who did almost nothing until 30-years old have some sort of inborn superpower.

I actually liked it

Though I seem to be in the minority since the story was axed. It is a little misleading in the beginning, the MC is highly unlikable and there seemed to be no plot. But I saw a little bit of my flaws in him that I don't often see in manga and it made me sympathetic to a rightfully unsympathetic character. It's rare for me to be drawn to a character for what I dislike in him than what I like. As a result of this, when he finally started changing himself, while still keeping his core personality, I was very touched. It was a reminder that everybody is different so they each need different motivations to get started, but nobody is hopeless. It's also a nice lesson on treasuring what you have while you have it. It's a pity that'll we'll never get to see the true end.

First 3 chapters are a waste of time and misrepresent the series. It looks like it's supposed to be a funny parody of generic shounen adventure series, but it doesn't come out as funny - just irritating because the base of the humor is the offensive, degenerate character of the MC. This is the same type of humor as for tv shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Story actually starts up at chapter 4 where the MC's character becomes more bearable because the plot is starting up. Story is actually pretty interesting. It's too bad that a large portion of readers will lose interest during the first 3 chapters.

Unfortunately, it looks like the series got axed.

Honestly, this is only good if you have a similar personality to the mc and if you do, then congrats, you're a swine. I couldn't care less about a mc like this, I can't relate to him on any level. His personality is horrible and he doesn't deserve any of the good things he gets. I am also damn sick of seeing him pick his nose. Him dying would've been the best ending.

Don't waste your time.

Started reading this. Nowhere in tags is there mentioned: trying to be an episodic comedy/parody with better than average art. And a repulsive deadbeat as main protagonist. Not my cup of tea. Ended reading on ch.3. Never picking it up again.
