Huge disappointment.

It rarely happens - I regret reading this manga. This love story of two high schoolers is terribly boring, nothing really happens between them. It's like the first chapter were repeated five times. Boring. But it's ok. There's no harm in a boring story.

What makes me regret reading it is how the author treated domestic violence. In this story it's not something bad. In this story - nobody cares. Adults and teachers put a blind eye on it. They didn't even try to scold villain. Neighbours didn't call the police, not even once. What's most surprising - the guy who's in love with the victim also didn't help. Didn't even try to help.

Here's the best part: our victim decided to stay with villain and support him. Victim's boyfriend didn't try to stop victim, didn't try to help him leave pathological environment, didn't say it's a bad idea. Gorgeous boyfriend thought "he really cares about his father, so it's a choice that really fits him, and a good one at that..." are you kidding me? seriously? is he retarded? well whatever, if giving OK for a domestic violence makes you feel uncomfortable don't read this story. Oh ending is sudden and way too short.

Pretty but heavy issues not well expanded upon

The art is very pretty and the tone is light-hearted and cheery. This would be fine but the tone does not match the subject matter at all. I wish the mangaka divulged deeper into the impact of the dad's domestic violence. I think it was brushed aside too quickly.

This definitely left me with an unsatisfied feeling.

Actually not very good

You ever read a story and liked it, then re-read it again some time later and thought "This...actually isn't very good." This is one of those times and one of those stories. From the very first chapter I found serious flaws that I was somehow able to ignore when I first read it.

The main problem with the story is the severe mishandling of very important issues. Some pretty serious themes are introduced- child abuse and molestation- that are completely thrown aside for comedy and basic yaoi drama. It feels like that should've been left out if it wasn't going to be expanded on. It's not like there was more important issues to handle. For the latter half of the story a girl is randomly introduced to fall for one of the pair. Granted, the mangaka didn't write her to be completely despicable as some of the women we find in yaoi, but her drama completely unnecessary when there was plenty of already established conflicts that needed to be handled. The mangaka should've stuck to light hearted themes if she wanted to write a light hearted story.

The results of all this is a very mediocre and unnaturally light hearted yaoi story. It's not hard to read by any means, and it's fun enough that I managed to ignore the pending issues when I first read it. It's just that once you know how the story ends and what issues get resolved, it's hard to ignore the issues that don't. I won't give it a score cause it's too mixed. If you're able to ignore the worse flaws it's at least an 8. If you're not, it's at most a 6.

It was... Fun! It wasn't light reading, not really when you remember what the Uke had gone through. But it wasn't deep because they don't really talk about it. So it was standard.
Fun for the humor and the feelings, the interaction and sexual activity, and their personality. It does feels like lack of something. If it's more than one volume, and goes deeper, either this would turn out amazing and lovely, or horrible if the author couldn't describe the story line clearly and smoothly.
So it wasn't the Best, but still charming enough and adorably lovely enough.

It's a cute story to tie you over if you're bored, or run out of things to read. It's not a bad story, though it feels sort of bland. I think this story could have worked if it had two volumes instead and not feel so rushed? The ending seemed quite rushed. Not sure if the manga-ka was told to end the series or not, but.. I feel that they could have elaborated more on Taisuke's family background.

Would have loved to know how Taisuke and Masao met too!

Subpar and inadequate

The way this manga touches on some very serious issues with such a light-hearted tone is truly quite bizarre to me, I actually questioned myself if what I had just read is real.

So the plot is about two childhood friends who fall in love in a heartbeat and their relationship does not progress any less subtly than that - a BL story as unique as a grain of sand on the beach for sure, but I'm more or less fine with this as long as it's silly but fun enough, with witty dialogues and charming characters, and we have a recipe for success.

This manga decides to go for a more dramatic and 'edge' route, which is still fine with me, until it also wishes to keep the happy vibe and all this doki-doki frillies nonsense that does not belong in such a story with issues so very real and serious like this. The matter of domestic violence is taken so lightly of throughout the whole story until right at the end thoroughly left me in awe, negatively speaking. The manga is really more of an upbeat and 'innocent' type of BL story by nature, but it tries to throw in some adult problems (sexual harassment, domestic abuse, uncertainties about future) to spice things up, only to come off as shallow and skimming on the surface because of how inappropriately those issues are dealt with.
Honestly, the only good thing that came out of this (very poorly handled) manga is the adorable chibis the mangaka managed to squeeze out, a very small compensation for what I've just been through.

Maa-chan tells a clingy girl about his relationship with Tai-chan (to let her know he isn’t single) and the following dialogue ensues:

Girl that likes Maa-chan: "You might actually realize you DO prefer girls! After all, I'm DEFINITELY a better cook than he is! So, when that happens, you're welcome to come crawling back to me anytime!"

Tai-chan looks back with irritation before suddenly smirking.
Tai-chan: Maybe…but I’m WAY better at giving head!

Both Maa-chan and the girl stare in shock. Tai-chan merely smiles. The end.

I thought a majority of the story was pretty boring, especially with how quick the relationship developed. Even so, if you need a reason to read this manga, those last two pages pretty much win it. I wish the mangaka had added a lot more humor; she clearly has a feel for it.
