Goshintou features several different pairings in their two volumes. The basic concept of the story is easy enough to understand - sword spirits(Goshintou) have been created by priests specialized in the creation of them to defeat evil spirits. This manga is more character driven than anything, centering on a different pairing every few chapters, so there isn't much of a plot to follow through. Actually no there is a plot to follow through but...it depends on the pairing.
The pairings were a mixed bag for me. I really, really, really enjoyed the stories of two pairings(Kazuto/Kikyou and Shiou/Mikoto)both featured in the first volume. Kazuto/Kikyou are also featured in the second volume. However the other pairings didn't speak out to me as much, even the main pairing, Ninomiya/Nanaki of the second volume.
The artwork might be not be to everyone's taste, since I showed this to a friend and she didn't seem too fond of the art. However, I found the art to be simply gorgeous. Its a more mature art style, with beautiful looking characters that don't look like little kids.
If there's one story worth checking out its definitely the second pairing, Shiou & Mikoto, featured in the first volume. Their story is dark and bittersweet, and features a love that was tainted from the beginning. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful read and I loved watching both characters develop through one another. Mikoto's development through Shiou is more obvious since he didn't have much of a personality to begin with. But watching Shiou develop through Mikoto(who developed through Shiou) was really beautiful and sweet. I really love Shiou's character design, as well as his capriciousness. Mikoto's a really cute character; my favorite character as of yet.
I'd say go ahead and check it out. There's several different stories so you may find a couple that appeal to your tastes. But definitely read Shiou & Mikoto's story.
I really hope Duo Brand continues Goshintou, though considering it took them a couple years to put out the second volume, I'm not too hopeful. But if anything, they need to continue Shiou and Mikoto's story just because it was so damn beautiful. I don't know how they would be able to complete their story in a tasteful manner though considering what happened in their story.
