Description
The work consists of a collection of six short stories, all set on the Okinawan islands during World War II. The manga, along with detailed documents and accounts from the war, they give an insight into the terrible living conditions which the populations of Okinawa were forced into, squeezed between the Japanese mainlanders, and the invading American army.
In 2003, the manga was announced as the winner of Best Manga of the Year by the Japanese Ministry of Culture and won the Grand Prize at the 7th Japan Media Arts Festival.
