Strong start, quickly devolved into a slew of generic, predictable, and boring developments

The main good consistency about this is the inking, I really love the clean inking and the monster designs.
It had an unique cast and development going for it in the beginning but then 10-20 chapters in it became a snooze fest, I regret giving this series 70-80 chapters a chance before dropping it.
The author doesn't bother developing the characters past their initial state, the choreography sucks and is bland, just shoot shoot shoot dodge dodge dodge with no strategy and tension whatsoever even when there's a shit tons of "stakes" and environmental destruction. I think the biggest issue is its blandness if the reader read this type of series before---it's like eating white bread for breakfast, brunch, lunch, then supper. It'll get old REAL FAST.

....I rarely wrote in Baka since I have new place for writing review. I even delete some of my old review. But I think I'll write for some review again in here, including this title.
Someone said it's good at beginning at later become generic shounen. Well. I didn't really agree. I think it's very shounen from the beginning cough XD.
At the time first discovered this manga, I really like the kaiju side of main character. Like most, it's what attracted me.
I like the pace of the story. There might be a plot that felt rough (for me), but overall the story rollin' and make the character able to shine bright. I guess I'm pretty easy to please reader.
And yes. The power of friendship is real. I remember the bitter taste from the Blue Exorcist that I drop. And thank gudnes this won't be likenthat. Hopefully no more shounen reminds me of that XD.
I actually can be fangirling with many characters in this manga including-- obviously the vice capt' XD.
Anyw.
Though I like it, I always prefer if some story end while still shine bright. Like Ajin. It doesn't take too many arc and loads of unbelievable volume to wrap the story.
I might someday edit this review based on the ending and progress.
....or maybe not because I'll write that on other place! Lol.

It just too bad it didn't explained well. How long it will kept unexplained? Maybe because I'm a Parasyte reader, I hope the explanation come in an instant. Or least- not taking this long (as far as I read right now, which vol 7).

I have been a fan of the monster genre tbh (Claymore, Berserk, Gantz, Freezing I have all read to various degree) and actually I kinda agree with some other reviews here in that K8 popularity feels weird. As @Tremofx said, K8 is pretty generic in it's MC background. And progression is, in my humble opinion, slow. There's really not much you can get from a chapter (even when it is an action chapter) and it has also been a source of my frustration. Another point is less realistic art -while I'll let any reader judge to their own standard, personally I like when the monsters are more 'alive' looking.
Well it's not like it doesn't have a future. I feel the fact that MC transformed because of some germ infecting him is an interesting plot tool, in which we have yet to know whether the Kaijus are of divided faction or MC has actually some hidden background of whatever. However, I kind of feel it will just be another story for me.

I can't say much for the current development. The story most likely will much oriented, much narrower, with the troop's jobs on the field but it's still good so far. The most important is...damn, it has amazing action and satisfying wide-spread pages. The monster's protoype in this manga kind of remind me with Ajin. I don't really care about other criticisms—if any—but this is still the best choice compared to WSJ lineup which is too nakama power cliches.

as of chapter 14, I am deeply impressed. The story is generic but it doesn’t stop it from shining among countless other shounen manga. The author KNOWS how to do their job.
The art style and pacing are great, plot twists happen just at the right time, the characters are likable and (at least at the moment) don’t feel 2D to me... What more do I say?
It is just a really good read.
as of chapter 38- nothing has changed. If you get past the first 2-ish? first bad chapters, it’s an amazing read. Strongly recommend

there's a lot of good shonen that despite being a tad melodramatic, overly saccharine, logic defying pieces of trope that are good. kaiju no. 8 is just generic though. there's nothing noteworthy. a loser type who was powerless becomes powerful to fight other powerful things. this is everrrrywhere. i'm not saying it can't go anywhere but so far the characters are generic, the premise isn't overly interesting, and i have found no glimmer of potential to say that this is going to be something better. if anything most mangas impress early before falling into second act traps so that fact that there's been no hook yet isn't a good sign.
