Satoru spends his days listlessly in a factory town. The old man Segawa, a former Yakuza, lives in the room next to his cheap apartment. One day, Segawa tells Satoru, "I'll give you 5 million yen to put me out of my misery." Satoru hesitates, and Segawa sees through to the madness eating away inside him and begins to have a change of heart, and yet...!? A story of the filth of society and the dark path that Satoru takes -- on the edge of sanity -- with a gun and 5 million yen.

I mean is a solo road about how a simple thing makes it bad. And then worst. Is like a movie. I honestly like it.

I can see why many people can dislike this manga, as it doesn’t really follow a typical manga story. IMO, this manga is a “road book, post-apocalyptic”. Basically, road books post-apocalyptic characteristics show a lone protagonist, travelling and searching for a better world, a lost eldorado. Communities are often negative, as they bring trouble and misfortune to the protagonist. The story pace is usually slow, just like with this manga.
You can see the same characteristics from Road books post-apocalyptic and this manga. Whenever the protagonist encountered people, it always end as a tragedy/murder (old yakuza man died, daigo died, he lost the kid and so on).
In short, perhaps as a typical popular manga story and art, it won’t fit well. But if you analyze it (and possess the knowledge) about road books post-apocalyptic, you’ll be able to enjoy Zankyou more.
I pretty much liked this story because it is unusual, especially the art style. It also has the same vibes as the movie “The Road”
