Unexpectedly good

This is a work that demands your time, the first 3-4 volumes are composed of apparently unrelated non linear stories, and then you start getting some plot, but this is a 19 vol long manga, if you don't have the time to read it in one go, then put it on hold, because due to the nature of this work you can't really know which stories will be relevant and which will not until it is too late.

The story is cyberpunkish with a lot of fantasy on it, after all there is magic and demons, etc. But that's not a problem since much of the world is explained as you go on in later volumes, unless you do that you will end with the same opinion than that of Mr. whitespade or asmageddon, who clearly dropped it at the start of the story when frankly speaking nothing interesting happens,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
unless you are willing to keep on reading, because some of those apparently unimportant early characters will come back as the story advances

Kinda a let down

It was supposed to be action-at least, that's what I thought when I saw this manga. Turns out the action is boring, and I find the art to simple for action. Although what the MC eats becomes his weapon is an interesting plot, the art and action didn't bring out the best in it. I only read the first few chapters-it kinda got harder to swallow afterwards.

This manga will be suitable for you though, it you like more sci-fi/magic type.

Not really a good manga

Eatman has a somewhat dumb, soft sci-fi and at times almost fantasy setting. It doesn't introduce characters properly, and the main hero is the usual overpowered know-it-all mysterious guy who everyone falls for. Most stories are loosely related and have no absolutely zero buildup and as such aren't interesting or exciting in the slightest.

All in all, it's a rather poor, generic shounen manga with no merits that would make it worth reading. 3/10

*i only go thorugh 4 vol, might edit later*

the first volume is really infuriating, i just do not like all the girls featured in it. they act too stupidly without consideration of others. the last girl is especially making me angry.
this trend also continue on later volumes, it is hard to find a heroine that don't act like the world owe her. character development is nonexistent for the protagonist and though silent mysterious god mod character can be good, i do want a bit of change on this main character. even if the stories are one-shots, at least show some emotion other than smugness? there are no complication of moral/ethic/character in any of the stories, completely black and white so there is no excitement, nothing to ponder, none for reflection.

i am also very disappointed with the label, because this is not scinece fiction. without the 'future' looking gadget and building, this work can be anything. if you replace the gadgets with magical implements, there is no difference in the story. a true sci-fi work need to address the function/effect/complication/etc of technology or anything pertaining it.

this work is thoroughly mundane, i am more disappointed because everyone keep raving about it. i may resume my reading anytime in the future thus changing my opinion of the manga but as of now, this is just okay.

This was quite obviously one of the best sci-fi fantasy mangas ever, although the fact that it's mostly oneshot may turn people off.

There are continuing storylines scattered here and there, such as the leon arc which takes several, several volumes to complete, and it's not until that last volume that you realize the previous volumes were even part of it in the first place. bigrazz

It's very annoying to people that don't like oneshots. Most storylines will resolve in one chapter(I guess ~30-40 pages), and each and everyone of them are bold, new, and refreshing. The bad guy could actually be a good guy, the good guy is actually the bad guy, girls fall for bolt, bolt says at most ten words a chapter, yadayadayada. IT's really better than it sounds.

The WORSE thing about this manga is that some characters pop up in later chapters that was from like eight volumes ago, and being that this is mostly a story of seemingly oneshots, you probably won't remember that character. I count at least two characters that were part of a general "cast" in the last two/three volumes that I don't even know the names of. It doesn't really matter, but it really ticks you off. There's very few(if any) sites on the internet collecting the information about the characters, so it'll be hard to understand who they are without actually going back and reread the entire series.

Action is amazing, and the plotlines are always cool. The art is very nice, although you never see Bolt's eyes in the later volumes(you'll always see those glasses). Every now and then, there'll be a pretty cool plot involving bolt's past. ALL characters, even the "bolt" girl that appears for the sake of the chapter, have a personality, so you won't be dissapointed. The first two volumes aren't truly that seductive, but by the time you get to volume 6, I know you'll finish it up.

Check it out, it's an amazing, EPIC read, especially that ending. Unfortunately, the readers never TRULY understand who bolt is, even with all the hints. The last chapter gives a pretty cool idea, though.

Finished the whole book in one go so that I can't say I understand everything happened. The first few volumes were somewhat scattered but after that, an actual storyline was introduced. The ending was the most unexpected thing.
Well I'll say read it, but if you do, be sure to stick until the last few volumes, or else just skip the first few as it actually has nothing to do with the main story.

*SPOILERS*
Generally good but I prefer a little more explanation about the main protagonist's past and stuff, plus a good ending with a gal will be nice.

Read one volume, if you enjoy the lack of linearity then you'll enjoy the other 18 volumes. However I didn't like it. I mean come on, one page we have the main character saving a princess and saying she's his girlfriend, several pages later we have absolutely no idea what happened to her, but all of a sudden she's gone and he's on another adventure. He ends up meeting another damsel in distress, saves her, she has feelings for him, blah blah blah. Next chapter she's suddenly gone, he's in a different town on a different adventure.

I didn't like it, some might :/

edit: The last 2 volumes or so are actually a rather good read ^^ So even if you skip everything else, I suggest those. The ending itself was very damn unexpected.

Various one shot stories with some linking story lines mixed in. The best part is the main character lives for many years and the world he lives in is so varied that it always feels fresh, interesting, and action packed.

I personally don't like its lack of linear story line, it jumps from this to that and can't seem to find a middle ground till the very end. For example it can be X years in the past in chapter 22 and 10 years in the future in chapter 23. However the end is really out there and will blow your whole concept of Bolt, seriously.
